SSD Newbie

I put it on the Sata 0 port.. is that what you mean?

That's fine.

But really meant, what is the SATA controller on your motherboard.
IE. is it Intel based, or Marvell?

I know that the OCZ drives work better (IE. give better performance figures) on Intel controllers and can be quite dire on Marvell ones. Not sure if this is an issue with the Crucial drives as well!?!?!

Im pretty sure its Marvell, I have some driver instead called Marvell..

That might well explain the difference between your figures and those of Frenzy (I'll have a guess here that his drive is on an Intel controller). Which is a little strange when you think that the M4 itself has a Marvell control chip on it! But that's just the way it seems to go at times (life that is).

Maybe someone else with this drive may be able to shed some light on the situation.

Mines on marvell aswell, actually looking again I don't know. I appear to have both. I know from my specs they are marvell, installing the drivers they were marvell in device manager but hafter having done sp1 and all the updates it appears to have changed to a standard ahci microsoft driver... The intel controller does however appear to be using Intel drivers so that is probably the difference.

Hi... It will depend on which SATA port you have them plugged into. From your photo it looks like your board has a pretty standard Intel 6 port controller on it. Of which the first two will be 6Gb/s and the remaining 4 will be 3Gb/s. Rather like my MSI board, you probably have an additional Marvell controller to give you an extra 2 x 6Gb/s socket/s.

PS. I've checked the spec for your mobo Frenzy and the above would appear to be the case.

Nice motherboard.

To quote from a review that I've just looked at:

Turning the corner, we can again see those power and reset buttons along with the eight SATA ports that are present on the board. As for the specifics on the SATA ports, we've got four black SATA II ports that run off the Intel Z68 chipset and next to that we have four grey SATA III ones. The two closest to the SATA II also run off the Intel Z68 chipset while the two furthest ones which are labeled as M1 and M2 run off the Marvell SE9120 controller. As always, you want to try and run off the native Intel ports before you move over to the ones running off another controller.

If it was me, I'd just check that you've got it plugged into the first sata port on the Intel controller.

PS. This is the review that I was looking at (see bottom of page).
