Hi all,

I'm trying to setup Windows XP on an old Gigabyte 965P S3 board using a Crucial M4 SSD.

I know I need to set the mode to AHCI - But when I do this the SSD is not being detected by the motherboard?

Common problem?

Should I try the 'Gigabyte SATA ports'?

Thanks

...ok, so I've now tried it again with a Gigabyte P35 DS4 Board and I'm getting the same thing! :(

So what is it? Are these Chipsets too old to work with SSDs properly?

The only way I can get it to detect the SSD in AHCI mode is if I use the Gigabyte (purple) ports... any downside to this?

Thanks

For XP, yes, you'll have to slipstream the intel ahci drivers into the XP install.

XP doesn't work as well with SSD's compared to Windows 7, because there's no built in TRIM features with XP.

I think this should work, not used it in a while..

Copy your XP disc to C:\XPCD\

Run this tool on it to add the intel drivers (might as well add all the drivers)
http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/85842-raid-slipstreamer-x86x64/

Then run nlite on it and only use the 'build ISO' option, don't mess with other things unless you've used it before.

Burn the ISO to disc either using nlite or using IMGBurn.

Thanks, but how is the xp install going to work, if the SSD is not even being picked up in the bios.? (by the intel controller)
