SSD - not that impressed

A single drive?

The Vertex might be slow due to being so full.

Technically it shouldn't, remember it's not a mechanical device...

I would suggest updating your motherboards BIOS and chipset drivers to the latest version if they aren't already. Also you might want to read up about the performance of the chipset on your motherboard. I know when SSD's first appear it turned out a lot of southbridges couldn't meet the performance demanded on them by SSD's and the manufactureres had to release BIOS updates to resolve this.

disable prefetch? this i dont get. the SSDs are meant to be quick but wont be as quick as opening a frequently used program from RAM.

cant see the reason for that tbh.

Maybe, but the idea is that you have a faster bootup if windows doesn't have to prefetch everything on startup, you have more free RAM. And the actual speed difference between a prefetched app and SSD only isn't a huge difference in most cases. So it works out better to disable it from my experience.

A single 320 F1 gets around 95mb/s avg.

Either your running multiple F1's in Raid, or you're wrong.

ok didnt remember the exact figure but I remember it was close to 200mb/s and forgot to mention raid0, apologies!
for the price for 1 SSD that low in capacity wouldn't it be a lot cheaper to still use the old tech in raid + you get what 10-20 times more space?
Bigger SSD in raid0 would be ideal, will cost a lot of dough though.

here is an old pic however I'm still using the same setup

i see your point but i suppose it's down to types. i'm the type that leaves the PC on (or in hybrid sleep at times) until forced to reboot so superfetch would (for me) be a valuable thing

i have the bog standard ocz solid series 60gb and im more than happy with it, its quick as hell and is TOTALLY SILENT , i just noticed ocuk now have the agility seies tho and might add one of these to store a few games on cus hard they are faster than any veloicraptor in raid
