I have had a 256GB samsung SSD for a while now. Recently my computer has been running like a dog. CPU/RAM are OK, so I can only pin it down to HDD.

I should note this has been a gradual thing. I am going to free up some space as it was at 80%.

Are there any tools that can check SSD for performance issues?

I've edited it - try it now.

Thanks. I accidentally word up there.

OK, so I can see my problem. I am getting a write speed of 32 and a read speed of 160.

This used to be 250/100. I have lost a shed load of performance. I wonder if its my SSD going dodgy or I just need to reformat.

What SSD, and are you running TRIM? Performance may decrease if there's no TRIM or garbage collection.

OK, so I have been doing some reading. I need to flash it with the latest firmware which will enable trim. People report 160mb write after that.

Can trim make that much difference?

Its the samsung pm800 256gb disk for reference

I'm pretty sure your SSD doesn't support trim, which is why your losing performance.

EDIT: Just seen your last post - yes trim keeps the SSD optimised. Backup your data and update the firmware.

it does, ive just checked. There are some models with a firmware on them which can't be upgraded, I am one of the ones with an OK firmware to upgrade.

thanks for your replies.
