SSD performance tweaks

well i swapped ports and went from 380mb/s read to 250mb/s read, the write speed was up by 10mb/s. So think its worth keeping it on the marvell controller, im gonna see if there is a update on the marvell driver. If i can find it though, see if that improves things.

It's rare that you will reach your max sequential read/write speeds unless moving large single files. Sata 2 will max at around 250-250 so was always going to be slower but also check the random read/write, access times and just general responsivness on the intel sata 2 in comparison to the marvel.

well the random read on intel was 50266 IOPS and write was 42731 IOPS. Whereas on marvel random read was 56243 IOPS and write was 42276 IOPS. Boot speed seemed the same on both so wouldn't be able to tell that way.

That sounds like 4k QD32/64? Typical consumer use supposedly rarely goes beyond 4/5 QD.

I reccomend trying Anvil's Storage Utilities (xtremesystems forum thread has links for RC5 and detail on use but the ssd benchmark is pretty self explanatory). Will show 4k at qd 1/4/16.
Its just a better tool imo than As ssd /crystaldisk/ATTO.

Edit: but tbh either way performance will be pretty similar, and better than an hdd, so which ever you go with you'l appreciate the speed/responsivness.

I have been using the benchmark utility built into the samsung SSD magician software. The test I have been doing is 1GB Range and I/O Size was left at default at sequential 128KB and 4KB Random.
