Hi All,

I bought the following :

OCZ Vertex 3 Raid Pack 2x 120GB (240GB) 2.5" SATA-3 SSDs

How can I test the poerformance of these drives in Raid0.

At the following link it boasts speeds of :

- Maximum Read: 1100MB/sec +
- Maximum Write: 1000MB/sec +
- Sustained Write: 1000MB/sec +

My mobo is a Sabertooth X58 and I have them plugged into the 6gbs ports.

What can I use to test the speed that I am getting from these drives ?

Cheers,

Daniel

Hi and welcome to the forum.

You can use AS SSD, ATTO or CrystalDiskMark.

I suggest you try ATTO as that's the one OCZ use when quoting speeds.

Don't be surprised if you don't see the speeds in your post.

The add on Marvell 9128 SATA III Controller you're using isn't the best.

Have I got the settings correct ?

Tbh im gonna raid them together, trim doesn't matter as ocz has there alternative to trim. Im gonna get another 2 60gb ocz vertex drives, so i can raid three together to hopefully get some good speeds. I will post the speeds when i get these.

Ok so not a new controller but a new Motherboard and Chipset which has the intel chip.

Can anyone confirm this is what I need to do ?

If you want native Intel SATA 3 then you're going to need a new motherboard, processor and possibly RAM.

I'd just stick with what you have and perhaps try the Intel SATA 2 ports to see if you get better performance than the Marvell SATA 3.

The Intel desktop chipsets which have native SATA 3 only support two SATA 3 ports anyway.

What are you doing that you think you need such high sequential speeds for?

They're not really the most important thing with SSDs.

Well the most important factor IMO for SSD's is the seek time.

I spend most my time in PS LR AE and Adobe Prem and of course the odd game or two :)

My Vertex 2 has died on me so that needs to be RMA as its only lasted less than 1 year.

So the last question is do I need to dump my image and reinstall when moving to the S2 connections ?
