I have an OCZ Vertex 2E Bigfoot which I think has died so I've opened an RMA case with OCZ and hope to get a replacement assuming the warranty was 3 years.

The problems started on Windows 8 with everything just freezing. After a reboot the drive wasn't showing in BIOS. I used a boot cd and GParted to try formatting the drive and it kept failing some tests. Eventually I got Windows 7 installed but had some BSODs and now the drive never appears in BIOS and Windows won't load. I presume this sounds like a dead drive?

I can't wait for an RMA replacement so have been looking to buy something new. Are the Samsung drives the best around at the moment? I was thinking of this:

Yes it should be fine, the pro models have better speed and longer lasting nand memory but the non pro models should last a good 5-10 yrs
