SSD Problems!

Hey I got my vertex 2 60GB yesterday in the post, with Haribo lol. Thanks for that. Now to the issue. I popped the drive in and it was recognised. I thought sweet, time to update firmware then do a fresh install.

I opened OCZ toolbox. It picked up the drive and then I selected the firmware update. It says that it rejected the update! I tried it several times with no luck. I ended up just going ahead and changing to AHCI on the Mobo. That would not let me boot into windows 7 at all. I ended up disconnecting my 1TB with win7 on it and my 3TB also, and left just the SSD plugged in and installed windows 8 on it, with what im guessing is the 1.35 firmware. I intend on setting up RAID 0 when another arrives today.

Has anyone had difficulty upgrading the firmware out of the box? Does anyone know a way around this? Or even why I couldn't boot to windows after I changed the chip settings to AHCI?

Thanks for your help!

Hi Frank,

If you want to switch to AHCI, run this first whilst on ATA:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922976

Then switch to AHCI.

Hey thanks for the advice. I will go home and connect my old windows 7 drive by itself and boot up and install the fix. This should sort out the issue of my win 7 not booting, but really want to get the firmware updated if possible.

Thanks for the advice

I forgot the fix, lol. But I got hold of another one of those drives and set them up in RAID 0. It gives me 100GB usable and I popped on Windows 8. At startup it detects that i have a windows 7 install and it gives me the option to boot that!
