I am thinking of getting a 30GB for my system drive, but seeing that a default install of win7 is like 13gigs, how do i cut down on the space usage.

I have looked at windows mount points, but they require empty folders, and updates will fail if I change the folder paths.

So any ideas will be helpful.
 
u could get the 40gb intel drive, which has enough space for the os and most used applications

then if u have another drive, jsut install everything else u need to the other drive.

i have the 40gb drive with windows 7, my installed programs, office and VS on there without a problem.

then i just install games onto a seperate drive
 
When you actually install Win 7, although it requires 14GB for the install, it will 'only' use about 8GB once finished. You could also put things like the page file on to a normal HDD if you have one (especially if you have plenty of RAM).
 
My laptops Win7+Apps install only takes up 22GB, 30GB drive should be fine unless you have some massive apps or games you want to fit on there.
 
The other thing you might want to bare in mind is you don't want to fill any SSD much more than 80%, otherwise, you'll get performance issues.
 
I've gone through the process of relocating items in the past by changing registry/windows settings and using junction links etc., however it left me with the feeling that I had wasted the time that SSDs are supposed to save ;)

That aside, using junctions (see the 'mklink' command) is very effective and even with larger SSDs I've used this technique to relocate certain heavily written to files to reduce wear.
 
Hi Thanks for all the info, I will likely be going with an intel 40gb one (that does support trim right?) and moving my docs/music to ANother drive.
