Hi all,

Need some help. I just had OCUK (Cheers Simon) cancel an ssd, which I ordered last night on impulse after I realised that I would need a bigger size than the Crucial RealSSD 64gb that I had ordered.

I've got a budget of about £140, and this SSD will be going into a fairly old Abit AW9D Max mobo with SATA II ports, so I won't be running it to its max potential. Both PCI-E slots are covered by the GPU so an additional controller card is out of the question. Basically this SSD will be used as an OS partition, and applications for the most part. I've been out of the hardware loop for years now, and just don't know where to look given that so many drives are available.

Last time I did look, the first gen Intel SSD's had a performance degradation issues as they filled up. Just reading the sticky now. Cheers all.

How about this which i've been looking at myself. 80GB should be loads and you can stick everything else on a normal HDD. Unless you need more space again in which case look at the 120GB version.

In the case of the OCZ drives the Vertex 3 is going to introduce SATA 3 which my board doesn't have anyway so I don't think there is any point in waiting. The new generation SSD's will probably bring about pricing changes but I can't see them being that significant to justify waiting any longer for some SSD goodness :)

Cheers guys, just ordered the Vertex 2 as mentioned above. Ideally I need the thing this week so I'd rather not wait...i'll just suffer when I possibly see the price of this very drive come crashing down when the next gen drives arrive in mid Feb :)
