Hi guys,

Finally took the plunge a got me a 256gb 830. Now, when I originally started looking into getting an ssd some 2 years ago there were loads of threads about getting the best out of them... I remember reading about bios configs and trim and various other little bits you could do to really get the best out of an already great product :D

So what I'm asking is, does the same thing still apply? Or are they just plug in and go now?

Thanks guys! Is that magician software in the box? I've got the norton ghost laptop bundle :)

Right, just fitted the drive to the case and booted into windows in order to restore my latest c: drive backup and it seems to be taking forever! I'm trying to restore a 114gb (144gb of data) macrium reflect file and it's taken well over an hour so far and although the total progress is 100%, the current progress is only 7%...

I've plugged the drive into a 6gb port but I used the first sata cable I could find - thinking that might be the problem?

Any ideas?

I take it I'm not normal then :)

My hd led is flickering and there is progress but it's just really slow! I didn't think it was normal, it only takes about 26 minutes to make the backup and it doesn't take that much longer to restore usually - with mechcanical drives anyway...

Just been reading about RoboRestore; could it be that I need to restore my source image from there to begin with?

Finslly sorted it! It just took an hour to restore :D

114gb (144gb of data). that about right?

Anyway, I'm there now. How do I disable hibernation, is it this: powercfg -h off from the command prompt?

Taken from Speccy; does this mean I'm only using a 3gb sata cable? I've ordered a 6gb one anyway :D

What benchmarking tools are their that would confirm I have my drive set up right and in the right port? I'm fairly sure I plugged it into the 6gb sata port on my mobo

Maybe that is just the standard response from speccy?

Just noticed that I can no longer even start windows disk defragmenter, even on regular hd's. Is that because its been disabled by samsung magician?

try right clicking any hdd and select which drives you want defrag to run on,it shouldnt run on the ssd,my ssd doesnt show up in the list

I don't even get that far mate! If I right-click on a drive (any drive) nothing happens...

Wouldn't be because I've got auslogics disk defrag installed would it? Can't imagine it would be.

Ha, yeah, how weird... 'untuning' through magician allows windows defrag to run again, on all drives and tuning it stops it from running on any drive

How do my benchmarks look, am I definitely connected to a 6gb port?

msahci, that's the default ms driver isn't it?

Would the driver my mobo manufacturer (gigabyte) be better?
