SSD time

Im after an SSD, never bought one before (or even heard of one until 2 months ago).

Im thinking something like the Agility 3 (probably 120GB), which seems fairly close to the £/GB mark and reasonable performance.

Ideally dont want to spend any more than £150, if possible, I wouldnt mind 2 60GB SSD's and raiding for some "pwnage" speed

I was looking at that, but it seems slow compared to the Agility 3 (read/ write ~500MB/s) whereas the M4 is just 500/200 read/ write.

Although Im not fully understanding what all this means...all Im assuming is higher = better?

I've got a lot of Agility 3 and Vertex 3, my advice: Crucial.

Had enough of firmware updates and changing settings.. still having issues with firmware 2.15 on a few of them and others are too. Even with secure erase, bios clear etc.. no confidence in it really.

So OCZ are pretty poop on the SSD front then?

Don't get me wrong, the ones that are working are like a dream, but its a gamble, for example i've got 2 Agility 3s that won't work in a particular board without BSODs or getting lost at bootup, but a 3rd will, same settings/firmware etc.. the other two seem to work fine in other boards..weird The M4 is more or less a sure bet.

I have the OCZ Vertex and it has performed flawlessly for me. The biggest thing I notice is that I’m on my desktop from a hard boot so fast.

Just make sure all the settings in the OS/BIOS are optimised for an SSD.

For an OS drive, I really don’t think you’re going to notice much difference between the latest models on the brands in terms of performance.

Its pretty small, something like 10000 people if that (depends if you count the neighbouring "towns")

She's late 20's mate. And yeah, most people her age around there know each other. Only like a couple of schools everyone went to.

Anyway, go for the Crucial. Since you will be hardly writing onto the SSD, just worry about the read speed. The Crucial seems to be the most reliable so far and it's a very fast drive. At the moment sandforce based drives are ones to avoid... but firmwire is improving over time.

Having done a lot of research before buying one Crucial seem to be the best. I seen reviews here and there about others failing!

Get the M4 for the extra 8GB, being left with 111GB on a formatted A3 is a bit meh untill it gets raided up with another one.

I'd like an M4, but I just don't want to spend £30 more than the Corsair Force 3. To be honest, my PC is fine anyway, so perhaps when the firmware issues are sorted we'll have a few good options to choose from at £1/gb or less.
