Hi there,
Wondering if anyone might be able to shed some light on an issue I'm having.
Basically, I'm setting up a machine for a friend, using a new Evo 840 (upon which windows has been installed), and an older mechanical HDD as a backup/storage drive.
The mechanical drive was used as a backup/storage drive originally, but used with the bios set to configure SATA as IDE. I changed this to AHCI when I was installing the SSD/windows, and everything's gone fine there. Windows install has gone smoothly, SSD working great, etc.. But now I can't access the mechanical storage drive.
It doesn't show in my computer/computer, but it does show in disk management, as 'unknown', and 'not initialized'. If I attempt to initialize the mechanical/storage disk, either MBR or GPT (I'm not concerned about erasing the data on the disk) I get an error message reading 'The system cannot find the file specified'. Ergo I cannot initialize the disk.
Now.. If I change the bios 'configure SATA as' setting back to IDE, I can boot to windows (from the SSD), and access the mechanical drive with no issue. But ofc, I want to run the SSD in AHCI (bios options are limited to IDE, RAID, and AHCI, and applied to all SATA drives it seems).
The motherboard is an Asus P6T Deluxe (rev 1), and I've installed all of the drivers listed on the Asus website.
Any help would be amazing. I'm about to start killing stray puppies..
