Just after some advice.

I left my PC Windows updating last Thursday morning. Upon my return some 7 hours later it was still on and stuck on a black screen so I turned it off and then back on again.

My PC started but went to a black screen after the mobo splash screen. I wasn't sure what the problem was so I checked the bios and all components appeared to be recognised and boot order correct. I then started to remove components systematically but did not get anywhere with that.

I decided to try to reinstall windows as the problem had started with an update so setup an ISO image on a USB stick. Upon booting this up with everything connected I got the Mobo splash screen and windows installing logo started before black screen again.

I disconnected the SSD and tried again, this time it got as far as the blue windows screen where I need to set up partitions etc to install windows. I obviously did not do this as the HDD is for my data.

I disconnected the HDD and reconnected the SSD to the same connectors as the HDD and again got the windows installing logo followed by black screen.

For completeness I tried the HDD and SSD with each others cables and only when I have the HDD connected on its own do I get anywhere with the windows installation.

Am I correct is saying that it is my SSD that is the problem here or is there anything else I need to try first before I order a replacement?

The OCZ appears to be out of warranty due to the Toshiba takeover. Annoyingly due to house move I also appear to have mislaid my Windows 7 CD and product key so if anyone has any ideas how I might be able to retrieve this suggestions on that also welcome.

do you have a spare hdd to install windows on? you might be able to access the ocz ssd then and get your data off it

you can legally download windows 7 from here

http://www.mydigitallife.info/official-windows-7-sp1-iso-from-digital-river/

you can also use magic jellybean software to try and recover your windows key,idk if it will work though if you don't have a working windows on the ssd,but could try running it from a second install on a separate drive but with the ssd attached

how old is it? if within 3 years Toshiba should still honour the warranty, they might give you current value in a refund though
