EDIT: I'm presuming you mean St Helens in Merseyside/Lancashire. There are actually two. One's darn sarf somewhere *spit*
Yeah I was born and raised in St Helens, I moved back here in December last year after seven years away in Southport.
It highly depends on which part of the town you're in tbh. There are decent parts (relatively speaking), and there are... economically and educationally challenged areas.
Stay well away from Parr, most of Clock Face, Fingerpost and Derbyshire Hill. The top end of Haydock is decent (where the racecourse etc is), and the higher end of Newton-le-Willows is decent [whistles and looks at location].
For example, I live in Newton-le-Willows in a detached house. My neighbour is a manager at the local education authority and her husband is a teacher. My sister on the other hand, for reasons beyond my ken, chooses to live at the other side of St Helens in a street worthy of Shameless and her neighbour's highest qualification is an ASBO.
It's a highly industrial town by nature, but is expanding in the retail and managerial sectors year on year. There are definitely plus points, and the town itself is OK, just be wary of certain areas as I said. Economically it's growing as well as can be expected, and the educational, public and other facilities are very good in my experience.
Anything else?
