I posted a while back re going for a 159 Q4, a ST220 and a 156 GTA also entered the mix

After garnering opinion and insight, i was around 90% sure i would go with the ST220 it just ticked a lot of boxes

My current car, which will be missed i think has now been sold

My problem is values, top, top ST's at dealers seem to be between 5 & 6 k

How much less would a private car be, as i seen a nice one on PH but it's up for nearly 8k, its low millage and looks a lovely example but it's a private sale and it's up for nearly 2k more than the best dealer cars.

I guess i need some advice on the values of say a mint car with

25k
50k
75k

I see what cars are up for, but having only started to look recently i guess i'm looking for some guidance on cars that look good value and ones that are overpriced

For reference, I paid £6500 for a 25000 mile 2004 car in 2008.

Nowadays I wouldn't pay more than £5000 for a performance blue 2005-2006 car with average mileage.

Are you referring to this one: http://www.pistonheads.com/classifi...---------------2004/2059579?isexperiment=true

?

Because that's about 1.5-2 times more than it's worth even with an MOT, let alone without one... Why wouldn't you put an MOT on a car like that. in order to make it stupidly attractive to buyers, unless there's something to hide? Just LOL.

I'd be looking for a '55 reg model at latest (because I don't think I could be arsed with the £475 VED of the 2006 and 2007 models) and aiming to spend 4-5k on an excellent condition one. Although if a lovely 06> one came around for a decent price I could be tempted.

In reality the prices are all over the place and you can spend £1500 on a sheddy prefacelift example if you really want to. A good condition 2004 car with the subframe bushes and handbrake cables recently sorted should be worth ~£3.5k.

surely if you have 5-6K there are better cars out there for the money.

The only one that springs to mind is the E46 330i/ci. And finding a good one is arguably more difficult than finding a good Mondeo, and it'll more than likely be costlier to run in the long term.

Yes that was the one, seems to have come down in price, it was 7995 last time i looked, so you think it's worth 5k ?

Without an MOT it's not worth anything. Why the seller won't put it through one for the sake of £50 is beyond me.

5-5.5k absolute max. And that's being generous. It does look very well looked after though, but I don't think they're a collectible classic just yet :p

Thanks kinda gives me an idea were to aim for, most of the dealer cars though seem to be around 5 - 6 for the nice ones and some have 60k + on the clock, going on your advice these cars also look overpriced ?? or is that the price i should expect at a dealer ??

Condition is more important than mileage at this point really; you're not going to find many "mint low mileage only 25k" ones. I don't think £5k for a nice 2005 60k ST220 is the end of the world.

You do pay a fair bit of premium for low mileage examples of ST220s although I doubt there are many left now.

I got mine 2 years ago for about £5k. It's a 54 reg and had 44k miles on the clock at the time.

Looks like some people are taking the mick with the asking price though.

Ridiculously high premium for the low mileage imo. I bought my 04 example 2 years ago from a private seller for 2950 with 70k on it and it was in excellent condition.

I see no reason to pay over 4k for a decent ST220 albeit from a private seller.
