I switched from latest beta to latest WHQL, now stable in Crysis

4400x2 @ 2.7ghz. I could only get stock stable, if that with Crysis. I think with the X1900XTX I got around 7000 3dmarks. With latest drivers probably around the same, around 9850 stable in 3dmark, but not stable in games. No I didn't use NiBiTor. Just rivatuner.

Rivatuner is for safe ocing. NiBiTor is a BIOS modder and it would be a bit risky for new users.
As I mentioned in a earlier thread. 730/1100 would be the wall for non-voltage modded 88GT. So your result is expected.

Currently at 725/1800/2100 on my Gainward Golden Sample. Was thinking about the BIOS mod but not sure it would work on it as it uses a custom PCB.

It's easy and it definitely works.
Because NiBiTor is loading your BIOS info into the editor and let you adjust the figures by yourself. Then it let you save it back to a floopy disk. So you are actually using your own BIOS and you could flash it with confidence.
But Pls note, it would void your warranty.

I guess flashing the bios is similar to flashing my ATI X1900XT to XTX, basically at stock it'll perform faster, without needing rivatuner clock util? Not flashing it, but here's snap from that flash util.

Yup, this's the one! And you could change the volts in the 'voltage'tab, then 'VID' sub-tab, then change the Volt in 3D mode to 1.1v (leave the extra mode as 1.1v as well)
But OP needs a nvflash software instead of atiflash. the command line is slightly different.

You are massively CPU bound, you would score about 15k in 3d mark 06 with that overclock if you paired it with an o/c wolfdale or quad.

Same for crysis

Darn spoke too soon, not stable in Crysis :-( Fine in Tomb Raider though, and definietly smoother framerate than the 1900XTX (although I haven't played it recently, perhaps ati have improved drivers) in legend on outdoor scene (quarry) now at higher resolution smooth.

Not changing mobo/cpu...fine for a while yet.

What the...unstable in Crysis even at stock :-(

Hey mate, did you oc your CPU and RAM as well? Crysis is the most demanding game in the planet at the moment. Slight flaw of any hardwares would cause problem in this game. We often test the stabilities of our new products with Crysis as a retailer.

Actually mine needed bios volt mod just to get to 720/1800 and I'm not entirely certain it's 100% as so far I've only really tested it with Crysis. My mem won't even clock over 930 (1860Mhz) without artifacting/crashing/restarting in games.

So I'll say OP's clock is very very good without mod.

Looks like it managed just fine without volt mod so I'll just leave it and be very happy :)

Steve, in my experience, OP's ocing result is quite average to 8800GT. I've tested more than 100pcs 8800GT inc. reference and non-reference 8800GT.(It's part of my job) None of them can not reach 1000MHz RAM speed. So I would say you are very unlucky or maybe there's something wrong with the ventilation of your case.

Secondly, I heard that Gainward's Golden Sample cards are all voltage modded. I did not test their 88GT personally but I have tested many of their 7800GT and 6800GT years ago.

Without the voltage mod, the limit for the 8800GT is 725/1025 in general. The best card I have tested can do 738/1150 without mods.

"base system" was stable with my old ATI X1900XT :-( @2.7ghz CPU /198mhz memory

Have you checked the temps for the card, either on idle and full loaded?
Have you uninstalled your old driver completely or you are still keeping the ATI driver?
Is the default clock of your card 600/900MHz?

Under 40 under full load (Accelero S1, with 12cm fan)
Fresh install
Yes, with rivatuner 600/900.

OK, did you put RAMSINK on to cool the RAM? Regarding to the fact that you have already modded the card, the warranty is voided. So the next step would probably go for a volt mod.

Can you describe the defectiveness as well? Are they freezes, artifacts or dotty/snow flaws?
