Stadia vs. Xbox One controller

So it looks like there are going to be a lot of Stadia controllers flooding the market after their recent giveaway

I'm wondering if anyone's had any experience with them, and how they compare to the Xbox One's. I have the latter, but always found the trigger buttons uncomfortable. Always thought the Playstation layout was much better.

Is the Stadia just a PS controller with Xbox buttons? Is the quality comparable? If so I'm sold, will use one for general (non streamed) gaming

I have both, and in my humble opinion the Xbox controller just takes it in terms of quality or perceived quality. The buttons, trigger all feel better imho.

However if you can get a stadia controller for next to nothing, then for the price it would be the better choice.

Stadia controller is nice enough - analogue shoulder triggers (boo you Nintendo with your Switch 'Pro' controller, boo!*) but frustratingly the left analogue stick and D-pad are flipped, making it weirdly just too much of a stretch for my left thumb to be comfortable. I'm so used to a 360 pad ergonomics anything else feels slightly off.

A very subtle but noticeable deadzone at the centre of both joysticks - something the Switch Pro and X360 pads don't have. Only really a factor if you rely on hair-adjustment through the centrepoint. Makes no difference to normal gameplay in driving games or shooters.

I use ReWASD with the Stadia controller and it performs admirably on all XInput-supported games. If you have a Switch Pro you can also use the very good but slightly less pretty ProConXInput driver, which plays nice with other controllers simultaneously connected.

ordered an Xbox wireless controller to replace my old X360 pad that developed drift. Had the pads since roughly 2010, so not too bad overall. Second pad is still okay.

To say I'm disappointed is an understatement. The controller feels well to the hand, and although it feels different I think I'll adapt in a couple of weeks. However, I keep getting disconnects. They especially happen when I use the controller most; i.e. in fight scenes where I am pressing a lot of buttons. The controller will disconnect for 5-10 seconds, then reconnect. I tried updating firmware, drivers, etc, but nothing works. Microsoft does not recognise the serial number of my controller so can't contact them. Perhaps due to it being brand new; they do say controllers need to have been used at least 24 hours prior.

Works fine wired, but the whole point of 'upgrading' is to take advantage of the wireless connection.

personally i find the stadia controller very comfy, I have larger than average hands i'd say (in keeping with my size - 6'2") and this is unusual to be honest - most controllers hurt my hands after a while. But i've only used it for stadia so far. I would say that quality wise it's probably roughly on a par with an xbox 360 controller, but with a better D pad.

The stadia controller does work wirelessly on PC (and mobile) btw - but only in Stadia.
