******* STALKER 2 *******

I'm guessing dumbed down and instead of doing what was needed and bumping the model/texture/animation quality up, they will instead leave that the same and drag the amazing and damn near perfect lighting engine down to the console level.

And with it take the gameplay down to.

I really do hope they leave it as is, bar a few tweaks, and make it PC first, and then a shoddy port for console kids.

Love the Stalker series, pretty much of the same mind as others. Hopefully be pleasantly surprised, but am sadly prepared to totally avoid it.

I have no doubt the story and game itself will be amazing.

How-ever, they will really, really need to actually learn to thoroughly test their games before shipping them this time. Lets be honest here - if it takes 3-4 patches for a game to work even vaguely on one platform, how on earth will they handle another two?!

I would like to point out though that even with the bugs, STALKER is in my top 5 all time best games. Which is why the bugs annoy me so much!

I read a quote by Sergey Grigorovich (i think) that said the game will be made for PC then ported to the consoles. He went on to say that the PC platform is their favourite to work on or something.

I have my doubts though :(.

Still, girl stalkers will rock :p.

I could never see them totally trashing it, between them they must realise that the formula that has made it a success must be more or less adhered to. A balance of some new developments within the game that support both consoles and the PC, well fair enough, as long as they don't compromise too severely with the basics, in other words I think it would be a mistake if the game lost its identity.

If the PC is indeed their preferred platform and as long as the publishers don't exert too much of a dictatorial influence, then I can see it being a somewhat different but very good title.

I agree, it would be a welcome improvement if the game was less fickle at release. I've never had any major problems really but the final polish is something that is substantially lacking. Having said that, COP ran better than the previous two after release for myself, and iirc, it ran better than the previous titles for owners of nvidia cards. Not sure why it runs better on ATI hardware, more efficient use of shaders I expect.

Could do with a lick of paint / new engine so it will be interesting to see what they come up with.

For once i just hope they ditch the "big fight scene" ending.

Maybe a gun battle sure but i'd much rather a large plan and then enter the NPPC (or some other building) though massive varied anomaly fields with unique artefacts and anomalies etc.

Say there's multiple ways i nlike the game is based i na series of locations i nsort fo a rign around it , for the main quest line you have to find differnt bits of equipment/information and learn the type of anomaly will be on your chosen route (and thus how to get past it)

You could have it so there were conflicting goals ie the access rout from the freedom dominated area may require tech from duty to safely pass meaning you either have to help them take it, steal it or help freedom destroy duty

So you spend the game dipping into the edges of this area and finding what you face (and grabbing the odd artefact only found there but in very difficult places) obviously there could be monolith forces there so a bit of stealth/combat mixed in but nothing silly like the endings of the last games.

(Of course though out the game you can change your chosen route based on your scouting/because of certain factions you want to help rather than destroy.)

Then once you've gotten though you're at the main building of course the route you took will bring you in differnt places so you have different entry points (say 1 for very/between 2 routes in) or you can pick your way around carefully to enter a different route or explore and fine hidden ones.

Then cone you're inside you have to explore the building fighting small groups and avoiding anomalies you've never even heard people mention (or avoiding one specific one from legend) to acquire something special (or simply to explore) perhaps falling foul of C conciousness while there. (ie the artefact you finally pick your way to though the most complex collection of anomalies including ones with very subtle hints you must have learnt to notice though the game) you reach forward and grab the artefact and then have a sort of doomed Indiana jones running from the collapsing temple/big ball as the anomalies fluctuate wildly, as it turns out the artefact kept everything stable, the zone goes haywire and a massive blow-out ensues wiping out everything in the zone (including the player).

Nicely setting up the opportunity for an enterly new faction structure/accessible area structure for the next game, ie you're now one of the first pioneers of the new zone rather than a new comer to a developed one.

of course it won't happen there wil be another dire battle that the game just isn't really made for :(

Or even worse they'll dumb the combat down and lessen the role of anomalies and make it into a generic FPS.

I can see this being a totally different game based on the STALKER brand, console kiddies will buy it because it will have a bigger budget and bigger marketing, plenty of CGI cut scene vids for the kids to get excited over on youtube instead of their old way of showing off the engines atmosphere and lighting.
I cant see what made the old games so good making the transition to console, its not a game you sit back on a sofa whilst making racial comments in a balls have not dropped yet voice in the middle of the day whilst auto aiming

Well an entirely new engine will be required for it to run on any console. I want more details on both engine and gameplay before I get excited.

Hopefully the new engine will enable them to make the game fully free roaming.

So much hate for consoles in here! I really don't understand it - I mean, sure, PC's are capable of much more and we don't want games to be released at a lower standard than is possible due to console limitations - but surely people understand that both platforms have their upsides, and both platforms have an equal share of idiots and kids.

Just because a game is multi-platform does not mean that the PC version will inherently be rubbish - I hear no-one crying that The Witcher 2 is going to be multi platform, because it's going to be great on all platforms.

How's about the console haters and "retard" criers wait and see what the final game is like before blaming a population of gamers that chooses a couch instead of a desk on the downfall of their favourite franchises?

The majority of pc gamers are older and more mature, this is due to the steep pricing and the fact they are harder to use than a basic console. For a kid to get a gaming pc for christmas or birthday they would have to be incredibly spoilt or inherited a load of dosh. However because consoles are affordable and they look all funky they appeal to a younger audience.

a) I'd love to see some stats to back this up, as there's no end of kids online on PC. I tried CS:S for about an hour, then gave up completely as the community was so ridiculously immature.

b) Of the few mature gamers I know at work (all over 40yo), none own a PC.

c) What of those of us who own both? Am I suddeny a retarded kid because I own a PS3, or am I l337 again when I sit at my PC to play a game?

I understand the basic statistics probably show that the console population may be somewhat younger than the PC gaming audience, but I doubt it's by the amounts some people think, and it certainly doesn't automatically make console gamers any less l337 or any more childish than PC gamers - in fact, the self-appointed better-than-thou attitude of some in this sub-forum would tend to show the opposite to be true.

Neil, my apologies for trashing the thread.

I refer you to my signature, some of us are sick of the second hand console tosh ported after thoughts we spend our hard earned on and when one of the better PC exclusive franchises could potentially go the same way its not exactly good news

However this kind of thing is beginning to become a thing of the past, devs more recently finally seem to be optimising the PC versions, apart from Black Ops of course

I refer you to my signature

As you say, the decent developers are optimising their games for each platform - we should be blaming lazy developers (or indeed, greedy publishers, pushing devs with a time restraint) for rubbish console ports, not the consoles themselves nor the console gamers.

Good stuff, I liked the original game (although haven't even got round to playing the sequels!). If the console cross over is anything like Metro 2033 then I'm not worried, that wasn't dumbed down in any way for me.

its not about optimising its about console limitations beeing forced onto games
.

consoles need more loading screens , smaller maps etc

look at the battlefield series it used to have 64+ players all the newer versions that are also released on consoles also are 32player smaller maps even on the pc...
