Stalker 2

Not played this game much at all, finally getting around to looking at it. I'm using all the latest DLSS DLL files (upscaling, frame gen and ray reconstruction) and I've manually put them in the appropriate location to be sure. Here:

.......\Engine\Plugins\Marketplace\DLSS\Binaries\ThirdParty\Win64

However, with ray reconstruction turned on in game I'm getting ******* awful refections in puddles that look like a child's impressionist painting, and then it will often have weird flashing small squares around the edges of puddles and on windows etc. What gives? Using latest patch too by the way as of yesterday.

Also, ray reconstruction keeps turning itself back on if I disable it. What on earth is going on?
It doesn't use ray reconstruction, in fact the game doesn't use any ray tracing beyond software lumen, so none of the nvidia side of things actually work with it.

The reflections is a software lumen issue, there's no fix for it at present except for ini tweaks that only seem to result in compromises elsewhere.
It is definitely one of the game's weaker graphical aspects. I sometimes wish I could turn them off altogether. They're awful even on epic setting.

60 hours in and I must've had my SEVA-D suit for at least half that time. Where can I get some new armour or am I too early in the game still? Storywise, next up is SIRCA if that makes a difference.

had my first main quest busting bug. Was told to go speak to Richter in the water tower. He shouts down at me thinking I'm monolith and then invites me up when I tell him who I am. But when I get up there, there is no "talk" icon, I can't talk to him, he just sits there smoking, drinking and eat sausage.

I went away and did a side quest, came back and still the same. went back a few saves and still the same when I get to that stage again.

Decided to just side quest in the meantime, but after a couple more side quests, tried again and suddenly I can talk to him and progress the main quest.

currently 152hrs in, and around 650 deaths !

THe only 2 things that annoy me in this game are

1) the wordwinds that you basically can't see/hear in time to avoid if your are sprinting that capture you and your health takes a hit
2) the never-end hill faces that you come across that you need to get to the other side in order to get where you are going

One thing that used to bug me (a little) was when exiting the journal you had to press 'B' (gamepad), to exit. This is also the pad button used to crouch, so upon exit the game put you into crouch mode, fixed in the latest big patch.

There is a good PSZD-12 Falcon suit in Malachite you can get. Better stats than the Seva-D. Have a look on Youtube for exact location.

You can press the same button you used to enter the journal, to exit the journal. It's not that B exits the journal, it's that crouching does. This behaviour hasn't changed
;)

Anyone still use any Engine.ini tweaks from nexus since the patch? Removed an old one.

Literally just downloaded a new one as forgot I was using an old one, this is the one I use:

Probably not needed with the new update but suppose can't hurt to use it for some extra perf as well as the other benefits.

I tried that one, the claim of 'no visual loss' is not true, it seems to really mess with the lighting and makes it incredibly smeary and slow to update. Like if you run around a wall or enter a room quickly you can see the light slowly appear. There's a lot of ghosting on quick movements.
Pretty much every ini or engine tweak that claims performance gains are making compromises, and a lot of them are readily apparent

Does the lighting inconsistency annoy folks ? If you are standing inside a building looking out of the door, it might seem pretty bright, but take 6-7 steps outside, it can actually muggy and overcast.

I thought that was just me, noticing such things. Not having played it much at all, still, it has surprised me picking up on that.

I am having issues still with what could appear to be resolution type scaling issues. But, they were not there before lasts weeks series of patches. It is as though menu choices and selects are at odds with where the cursor is.
Another reasons to park the game for a little longer.

Only so much lumen software ray tracing can do. Hopefully those things will be resolved for when the hardware ray tracing mode drops.

The thing that bothers/bewilders me most is why they implemented the slow-down when a powerful mutant, e.g. the bloodsucker is close by, which keeps repeating itself. As far as I'm concerned, that's a terrible design decision. For a one-off when you encounter that particular mutant, fine, otherwise no.

Hate it when that slow effect happens when I'm pushed over by a bloodsucker. And its loud raw also.

Ive noticed it takes a second or two to turn light when you step outside, this the software lumen doing this?

Cant say I've noticed this (yet) certainly not ghosting hmm.

One for Mrk. Attempting to setup Preset K. Here's the settings i have for global.

Can't see in game the overlay which indicates im upscaling. Not sure what ive missed.

The overlay that tells you what preset you're using is an entirely separate thing that you enable via registry editing.

Steps
  1. Open the regedit tool by pressing Win + R and typing Regedit
  2. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\NGXCore
  3. Create a new DWORD (32-bit) Value called ShowDlssIndicator
  4. Double-click the new DWORD value
  5. Set the value to 1024 in decimal
