Stalker 2

My Stalker 2 has started to semi-crash sometimes. And by semi, I mean it tries...

Basically I'll get the crash error message saying out of video memory, but instead of pressing 'ok' and the game closing. It allows me to tab back to the game and carry on playing. I can carry on playing for hours and it's fine. But then when I finish playing and quit, the crash message is still there and the game doesn't close properly until I 'ok' the message. Also, since the last patch, it crashes during shader compilation which it never used to do.

Had something similar happen whilst I was in Pripyat except I had to end the game through task manager. Seems these patches create more problems than they fix.

Indeed.....

Just, meh. Not in a rush to play i as yet though.

465GB for a game? WTH

465GB for a game? WTH

I think that was part of the problem, the allocated space was just wrong. No matter how many times I went through the removal and install.

I ended up removing it, deleting Steam cache, and then repairing the library the game is on. This time it fully installed as the latest version, without trying to, seemingly, install the base game and then the 1.3 patch on top of it.

Taking up 155GB this time...!

I think the 465GB version is the one with AI included and functional.

It's funny to think that AMD showed almost 17 years ago the Froblins demo with thousands of NPCs able to navigate and avoid dynamically placed obstacles and now, basically a century later in terms of technology speed, we have AIs so dumb that they walk right into danger and die. Then other AIs see their gear and go to loot. And die. And other AI sees the loot and goes to it. And dies. And another AI... well, you get it. I mean... there are freaking signs that show "danger! radiation!" I'm not sure if that guy still standing and looking understood what was happening (but kept quiet :)) ) or its script didn't activated and was too dumb to "see" the available loot around him :))

Anyway, in case you didn't know, you can snipe/look from one building into another and use the bug/feature with overexposing the outside of the room you're currently in. That way, you see what's in the other building since the exposure and shadows are lifted....

And no, these stupids things aren't due to UE5, but rather to superficial testing and implementing of concepts. I like the game and the Stalker series, as much as it can be liked, but man... so many opportunities are lost!

Anyone else's FG disabled on a 5090? It's just greyed out for me. Tried forcing it through the geforce optimisation too.
one of the settings disables it, I think it was the max fps/framelock or vsync
DLSS can completely go missing too, I'm pretty sure its one of the settings on that page that disables it.

you can just reset the whole page and it should come back, if its a bug

Do you guys think the performance will be fixed after a few patches or is it because the AI requires a powerful CPU?

It feels smooth to me using an RTX 5070ti in most parts but in towns with lots of NPC's it feels weird, not micostutters, just odd, hard to explain.

I looked on reddit, and they were blaming the AI running on the CPU but I've literally no idea about why it feels sluggish in certain areas.

What CPU are you running? Its very smooth for me on a 7950X3D with a 9070XT.

I'm running a 9900k

I'm getting well over 100fps, and it's playable. it's mainly just in the towns I notice a difference in how the mouse feels when I turn.

Running game fully maxed out, ultra settings with dlss and FG.

Maybe check task manager when your having no issues and then check it when you do, see if there is any difference in CPU usage\memory\GPU.

What settings are you running in game? Looking at the requirements the 9700K is for medium settings with a target of 60 FPS and that's at 1080P!

Looks like its similar settings to 1440P high settings and 60 FPS as well.

2. Medium Settings

For a smoother experience with better visual fidelity, this setup strikes a balance between performance and quality. It’s ideal for players who want to enjoy the atmosphere of the game with enhanced graphics and frame rates.

  • Resolution: 1080p
  • Target FPS: 60
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X / Intel Core i7-9700K
  • RAM: 16 GB (32 GB recommended for extra headroom) DDR4 Dual Channel
  • GPU: AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT / NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER/ NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060
  • Free space on disk: 160GB SSD
  • OS: Windows 10/11

3. High (Recommended) Settings

If you’re aiming for an immersive visual experience with higher settings and a smooth frame rate, these specifications are what you'll need. Expect dynamic lighting, realistic textures, and detailed environments that bring the Zone to life.

  • Resolution: 1440p
  • Target FPS: 60
  • CPU: Intel Core i7-9700K / AMD Ryzen 7 3700X
  • RAM: 32 GB DDR4 Dual Channel
  • GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT / NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti / NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070
  • Free space on disk: 160GB SSD
  • OS: Windows 10/11
    * The above specifications were tested with TSR, DLSS, FSR and XeSS.
