Stalker any good

It is wierd, you get jobs to do, sort of like oblivion. For some reason i could never manage to hit anyone with a gun. Some people say the game is good,I think its average. HL2 and bioshock are miles better:)

Yeah I enjoyed it.
It's nothing like HL2 really, other than the fact it's an FPS. Stalker is much less linear and allows you to go do your own thing if you really want (loads of places to explore).
It's kinda like Bioshock in terms of artifacts and 'upgrading' yourself, but I personally think Bioshock did it better.

Definitely worth a play IMO anyway.

Didn't really like it, played for about 5 hours but couldn't get on with it, just didn't seem 'right'.

It's got lots of praise here so I'll be quiet now.

HL2 is a much more polished game. STALKER isn't short of bugs, and can be frustrating at times. IMO however, STALKER has a much more involving plot.

As for Bioshock, just no. It was boring as hell. I'd take STALKER over it every time.

I quite enjoyed it. Really atmospheric and there are some parts that just scare the heck out of you. My only complaint is that there is no quick form of transport, you instead have to walk everywhere.

I'm in the middle of playing it at the moment and have to agree with that. Great atmosphere. Real shame about the lack of any vehicles.

Immense game, definitely give it a good shot. It starts off hard work with poor guns and your character can't aim (the stats are hidden but get better as the game goes on)

Fantastic atmosphere, spooky at times and great graphics (although completely outdone by Crysis now)
Some great guns further on in the game, the sniper rifles are a pleasure to use (especially the one with the low velocity and heavy bullet drop - Vintar? can't remember)

Not bothered about the lack of vehicles really, Makes you play the game in a far more thoughtfull manner, not being able to drive off escaping enemies to resupply every few minutes.

HL2 and bioshock are miles better:)
HL2 is so overated, ignoring Ravelnholm the game doesn't touch the atmosphere Stalker has. Stalker is far more rewarding to play.

Best game of last year IMO. It's not for everyone though (as you can see from some of the posts above), it's not linear and it doesn't lead you round by the nose. I enjoyed it a lot more than Bioshock, which had promise but ultimately failed to deliver through weak gameplay, lack of complexity and a tailing off of the story towards the end. HL2, excellent game and very cool, but also very linear and scripted. I like more freedom in my games. The more they make me think the better.

Stalker has the best atmosphere of any game I've played since System Shock 2/Thief 2. It also has a fascinating setting.

That's not quite right, the accuracy is down to the weapon stats. Pick up an AKM in one of the last zones and it'll be just as difficult to hit anything with as when you started the game. It's realistic too. The better weaponry should be more accurate, more expensive to buy and harder to find, and the more powerful guns with bigger rounds should do more damage.

TBH hitting things isn't that difficult anyway. If you are still and crouched even the first pistol you get is fairly decent up to a reasonable range. Same with the AKM if you keep the bursts short. It's not a run and gun game though, it's trying to be realitsic - half of the game is thinking about your surroundings, using them to your advantage and using the right tactics.

ive JUST started playing it and it is fantastic. when i first got it it run like a bag of spanners but now theres no problems, and its one of the best games ive ever played. somebody said HL2 and bioshock are better......no chance.the variety of weapons, the amount of people you can talk to and take jobs from, the wildlife and artifacts and side missions and everything else put it far ahead of HL2 and bioshock. its almost like a completely open-ended version of...im gonna say it....deus ex.

stalker is one of the best games around. it deserved to have been released in a better state - then it would have beeen far better received.

It's a great game although I must admit the atmosphere can be borderline depressing sometimes, but I guess that is too be expected in post nuclear Russia.

The AI is tough and the shooting mechanics are mustard, unless your thing is aracade shooters.

The RPG aspect could do with some improvements.

I say go for it, not like there is anything better at the moment - you have nothing to lose.

One of the better summaries of BioShock I've seen on here. It had so much promise but indeed didn't quite live up to what it could've done (that said, I still thought it was a good game).

I'm yet to complete Stalker, or even get more than a few hours into it but it's definitely one of those games that I "must play through sometime".

I have it sat at home now, Played Bioshock a little, it's not my kind of game, seems childish and no gameplay depth i guess you could say, just a story.

Someone mentioned deus Ex above, what a game. I used to rarely complete games, Half-life and Deus Ex being the main exceptions (except my computer died when on last but on level in deus ex [area 51?]so couldn't see the end :().

It wasn't a story, it was like a mystery, i can only describe it as genius and would love if someone released it again with a graphics upgrade. My game of all time. If you say stalker has similar NPC/environment interaction, i'm there, just my game, slow, tactical, intelligent.

It's good but very strange. Not to mention to get money you need to sell weapons etc but if you carry too many you get overloaded and walk like a slug. The only place you can sell weapons is to the 'trader' wh is always about 20 minutes walk away from where you are.....

Gets tedious fast.

Lots of potential but badly done.

its not as story - driven as deus ex. you arent really led to a point through a series of events like ex., but yeah it is comparable. just a lot more open ended.

ive not really found that so far. i found just doing the missions and side missions as i find them has given me enough money - far more than selling a few guns. especially when you get the moonlight artifacts and similar that increase endurance, it becomes easier to hold more.

Try the little blue star artifacts (don't remember their name) around your belt (get 5), and then your stamina just never goes down and you can run constantly

they are called flash i believe. moonlight is even better if you can find them (+109 endurance Vs +79) there's sparkler as well which is a round artifact like moonlight, but thats only +39
