STALKER: Call of Pripyat

i have the complete2009 mod for SoC but was wondering :

1. are there any other good mods out for SoC that will make the game more fun, relaistic and nice looking :)
2. when CoP was first released all i heard were bad things about bugs and crashes have these been fixed?

Ok i have played 5 hours or so of call of pripyat and decided to stop playing and buy the first 2 and play them in order.

Due to the fact im loving the game and feel that to understand and enjoy the game as much as possible playing them in order is the way to go.

I hope i have made the right choice :)

there are references to the earlier games in pripyat but nothing that would make it a problem to play them in any particular order.
They are all superb games (if a bit buggy...ok a lot buggy) but very involving.

I prefer the repairability/upgradeability of Pripyat...
The AI is best there but some of the higher end monsters take 3 or 4 clips to knock down :( by which time you would be dead.

Anyone found where the damn RPG7 launcher is? played the game end to end, run out of quests but still cant find the damn launcher. got plenty of rockets to go dwarf hunting with :D

Call of Pripyat is definitely my favourite of the series.. it's not as big as the other two games, but it's more polished and focused, with a lot of things that were added to SoC and CS via mods being included in the game.

I've already finished it once and i'm now playing through it again using the SMRTER mod which Quixote linked a few posts back.It makes the area's more dangerous places to navigate by adding more mutants,so it keeps you on your toes whilst moving about, and it also means more dead stalkers to loot :D The mod also includes a lot more weapons.

Personally it goes in this order for me:

Call of Pripyat
Shadow of Chernobyl
Clear Sky (can't bring myself to finish it, the last part where you have to hit strelok with the gauss gun is pretty sucky :()

CoP is by far the one that i most enjoyed out of the three, mainly due to the variations in mission and quest types compared to SoC and the weapon upgrades :), SoC is my favorite overall as i felt it had a longer storyline overall but i didn't enjoy it as much.

i liked CS over SOH because tbh both of them degenerated into *kill every****ing thing* at the end :(

would have much prefered it to be sort of sneaking into the power plant through a massive maze of anomolies and unique set peice anomolies and some monolith guys.

I just bought this in Game today and the manual does not have a cd key printed on the back, just a blank white box. Can't find a key printed anywhere else in the manual or on the other bits in the package (special edition version). Is this normal? Manual suggests you do need to enter a key for multiplayer.

Finished this today, quite disappointed tbh, seemed more like a stalker DLC to me, 3 small maps and very short.

I first played SOC with the complete mod which I loved and from that point the series has been going downhill for me.

This game is very short and poor value not like the the last two on top of that the graphics seem like a backward step and you still have all the stalker game BUGS, it feels like a rip off.

You guys are freaking crazy.

CoP is the best one, best quests, best open world exploration, best upgrade mechanics...

Very short? I spent 15 hours in the first map ffs. Overall I finished it after some 28 hours.

..of course, I wasn't rushing anywhere and explored every nook and cranny and did every subquest. And loved every second of it.

Personally i thought the better upgrade mechanics were in Clear Sky. It was harder to get upgrades, you had to be more careful with the upgrade path you chose and you also had to watch how you interacted with each faction otherwise they'd refuse to deal with you.

COP is really enjoyable, but to me it spoon feeds you a bit too much. It's way too easy to make money, and just buy all the best equipment within a few hours play. The traders and repair dudes will sell you pretty much anything you could possibly need right from the start. Whereas what always appealed to me about the Stalker games was the survival aspect - you were really scraping through for a long time, so when you finally did get some decent kit it really felt like you'd earned it.

I played hardest difficulty and haven't felt like it spoonfed me.
I barely even ever bought anything, I mostly found all my stuff. But I admit, by the end of the game I had exoskeleton maxed with spirinting upgrade too as well as maximum upgraded weapon. But the survival aspect was IMO strongest in CoP, as well as immersion factor, thanks to the zone being much more open and having less loadings.

For anyone who has been dissapointed with COP, I would recommend downloading the DLC called S.M.R.T.E.R which adds loads of extra weapons which are hidden all over the maps.

I also use the atmosfear weather DLC which is quite good too. These mods make COP much more playable than normal.
