STALKER: Call of Pripyat

Just re-played CoP. Good fun if still buggy for me.

Completed it, stayed in the zone and now done ALL the missions except i can't get the stalkers to accept the Monolith guys in Yanov(sp) station. Oh well better kill them all. LOL:p

Got all the upgraded guns i could ever want and fully upgraded armour so its all a bit easy.

Back to Clear sky i think. Seemed a much longer game. Shame there is no COOP to any of the games! :( That'd be EPIC. Any coop mods out there?

Have all three Stalker games, no problems with any OS other than a few old bug`s that got left in after the last patch.

Yes i like Clear Sky out of the three stalker games, you can keep coming back to it.

It's not essential to play SOC first; Clear Sky is actually the prequel to SOC. Starting off with the complete mods is a good move. Enjoy. :)

cheers for the reply and info, playing it now really enjoying it definetly a very sharp learning curve! :p:D ive learnt to save a lot!:D

No problem. :)

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. There are plenty of folk around here that'll be only too happy to try and help. :)

Does anyone still play this or dabble with the multitude of mods available for it?

I have just installed the "Anomaly" mod which is meant to have the maps from all 3 games combined, massive visual and model improvements and actually ported to a new 64bit version of the engine!

Colour me interested.

Does the 64bit version manage to use more than a single CPU core?

I'm coming back to STALKER after a long hiatus. MookJong, it's a strange coincidence you posted here today; look at the post gap! 7 years between yours and the post immediately before it, and yet we both come to the same thread to ask for mod recommendations on the same day!

The girlfriend and I are planning a trip to Pripyat and Chernobyl in October so it's only fitting I reinstall the games to show her what originally sparked my interest in 'The Zone'.

It seems the current generation of mods are all huge sandbox, akin to Anomaly as mentioned above. My last experience in STALKER was MISERY 2.1 and I LOVED it; it probably one of my best experiences in the STALKER game (when it wasn't stuttering or crashing that is). I just saw the trailer for Dead Air and I was instantly psyched to intall it, but I'm really not interested in freeplay/sandbox style. I want a big, none linear game yes, but I need a story to pull me in and direct me a little.

So, what are the mods of choice these days? I'd love to play SoC again, but with stability, more features and it has to look at least as good as vanilla CoP. The original STALKER is very dated now so it has have graphics on par of STALKER Complete.

Thanks!

Anomaly 1.5 has a story mode. It’s still in beta but there are people on YouTube doing long play throughs so it’s not just a sandbox.

I believe the x64 version does use multi-core, obviously supports as much RAM as you can throw at it and also DirectX 10 and 11.

So just started getting into this and if anyone wants to try the story mode then my advice is that when you start the game don't start in the default location. Make sure you select your start location as "Rookie Village". From there go and find the guy called Fanatic to do the initial training missions.

I played a little bit of SOC back in the day but needed a bit of hand holding and this has been perfect.

Yes, it's a great mod - a real slow-burner type experience, even for a semi-open world game like Stalker. Looks like a ton of work has gone into this.

Thanks for this. I loaded it up last night, and explored my random start area. I forget where it was but it's a small area styled very similarly to SoC's stalker base area with ol' Sidorovich. I was only one level change from Cordon. Only played 20 mins, so will either restart at Rookie Village or work my way there.

x64 has clearly made a great improvement for the overall stability. So far I've not had any of the 'STALKER Stutter', except from immediately after a level change. No jaggy lines, God Rays, SSAO, and very smooth. Haven't checked my frame rate but I'd guesstimate it was a good 50+ in my quick play. It certainly was very smooth :)

I couldn't get minimap to work in 1.5 last link is what I needed....marvelous thank you!

Also starting tip, make sure you select a gun at loadout, if you start with just the pistol you will struggle to do the first task of killing the boars with Fanatic. Also Fanatics "Nest Egg" stash is exactly where you would find a nest full of eggs ;-)

Thanks for this. I chose not to use the points for a weapon, but wondered if I might regret it. I'll probably start again from rookie village with an AK74.

Nice, i'll have to give anomaly a try some time. I started playing this again recently when they released a new version of Misery and got really into it. I tried Misery a while before but gave up after an hour or so as it seemed ridiculously hard and there was so much new stuff in the store that it was a bit overwhelming. But then started playing some modern fps and realised how dumbed down and easy it was and so went back to Misery to give it a proper go and I'm so glad I did as it was the best gaming experience I have had on PC. I just wish the xray engine wasn't so temperamental as crashes and corrupt saves are massive immersion breaking and the only mar on what is such a great game.

I'm now waiting a while to play through again to hopefully not burn myself out on the game. I'm hoping the mod that adds a ton of weapons to Misery is done by then (might even be done now, I haven't checked for a while).

Fingers crossed that they improve the engine in Stalker 2. Just imagine the mods if that game is actually good. I can't wait, but not going to get my hopes up too high after last time.
