STALKER: Call of Pripyat

Coming here on the back of the recent awesome TV series, I've decided it's time to give the Stalker series another blast, after playing it initially on first release.

Has anyone played the series on an AMD 2200g using the IGPU? Just built myself a PC for movies based around this, and wondered if it would cope at 1080P? Thanks.

Enjoying it so far, and have just finished Fanatic's training stuff. I have no use for artefacts this early on, and just having them in the backpack slowly poisons you, so I sold them back to Fanatic and bought all of 5.45 AK ammo. I now have a whopping ~60 rounds ha. The final task of clearing the bandits from the car park was a non started having already cleared them to rescue the loner (Wolf's task I think).

Any tips for starting out? I've sold all my coal and field cooking stuff and bought the ~14k gas/kerosene high tier cooker. Expensive, but my experience in MISERY taught me it pays off to get the best cooker early.

For cigs, are matches the only lighter source, or can lighters etc. be bought from NPCs?

Also can someone please explain to me what the deal is with the user.ltx file is? In every stalker game over the last 10 years the settings seem to just stop working. It's like everthing sets/works fine the first time you open the game, then bam - the in game FSAA no longer seems to work despite being set on 4x. This has always been the case for me over the years.

Sounds like you know what you are doing, most of it is fairly new to me but I am loving exploring and starting to learn the systems, how to make money and what to aim to buy next.

Also the game looks beautiful in it's own way sometimes. I slept in an old farm building at the edge of the swamp and had an early morning stroll...beautiful. The dynamic music fits the weather so nicely.

This game is reminding me of skyrim, but a skyrim that actually feels like a real world.

^^ I've not used the 2200G though providing you're not running anything heavily modded, I think you should be OK.

Thank you, just googled the recommended specs, they say HD4850, and the Vega 8 is supposedly comparable with the HD4890, should hopefully run fine.

Yup,

Yup, STALKER always feels like a poorly made engine, that seems to render things very nicely. In bright sunshine, it shows its age, but once it gets atmospheric it looks amazing. I've always seen X-Ray as a photorealstic engine - it's doesn't have 'good graphics' compared to modern games, but it looks very realistic at the same time.

Quick question regarding the mod Anomaly 1.5. Is the map all 3 stalker games combined or all new maps and locations? I am currently playing soc with Autumn Aurora 2.1 mod which I really enjoy.

It has all of the maps from the three games plus additional ones which, I assume, were either cut from the original release or are the creations of the modding community (such as the 'truck cemetery').

Enjoying it so far. Had a few crashes, but it's part of the stalker life. Can I just check that with Lost to the Zone story modes, that you can get to every map as you would in free play? I've noticed on the PDA map that the northern most sections don't have the level change route icons.

Also, there is an option in the menu to have 'finite bolts'. Mine is off, yet I'm having to carry bolts inventory and, of course, I've ran out of them. I see bolts a cool reference to the films/novels, but realistically you wouldn't carry around loads of large, heavy bolts when you can just pick up a pebble and chuck that. For this reason, I want to not have limit to the amount of bolts I have. It's just one thing that doesn't need to be that difficult IMO.

Thanks!

The anomalies only interact with metal I believe. This is stated in the official stalker lore, so pebbles would not do.

Damn, there goes my logic ha. I should have known that in hindsight. I'm still going to work out how to get unlimited bolts back though, as I've been hopeless at watching where they land to pick up again.

@Amraam I believe some level changes/destinations (depending on your game settings) won't appear unless you uncover them.

Also, I think you can't pick up the bolts once thrown even though a prompt appears when you get near one. I haven't been able to pick up one anyway.

Good to know. I think I'm just getting ahead of myself. I've only been in Cordon and Great Swamps so I shouldn't be too concerned about the likes of Limansk and CNPP etc. yet. I wonder how many hours it'll take to complete the story. The good thing about the vanilla games is that you know why you're there and the scene is set; you're either Strelok trying to kill Strelok, Scar trying to kill Strelok, or an Army guy working with Strelok. There is a story and a goal. I'm hoping ANOMALY can live up to that and that the quest line is not super short and only a small part of the game. I love the impressiveness of all the inventory micromanagement, but there has to be a purpose/story.

If you've selected the story mode then yes, there is a purpose and structure to the gameplay though I can't comment much on personal experience as although I did elect to go with the story mode, it's only after many hours of play that I've started tackling one or two of the main quests. Until recently, I've just been exploring most of the maps/doing side quests and learning how to use the equipment, etc. :)

Many hours in to ANOMALY now and loving it. It has it's shares of bugs, but they can be forgiven due to it being in beta. Great mod, and would highly recommend it! Looks amazing and runs very well!

Someone recommended a few more add-ons the other day; later on, I'll post a few links. Some of them look pretty good.
