STALKER - Doesnt look as good as it should?

Hi there,

My Rig is:

Core 2 Duo E6700
2GB Corsair XMS Dominator 6400 - 800mhz 4-4-4-12
EVGA 8800GTS 320mb KO ASC3
ASUS P5N-e SLI
TAGAN 1100w PSU

I have STALKER and everything on high... but the HDR lighting doesnt seem to be there. I have seen screenshots of others peoples game and it looks a lot better. Sometimes the FPS is awful.

:s it should be spot on .... i have a friend with an AMD 4200 939, and 7900GT with 2GB of memory.

His runs smoother than mine, he has settings on high and it loosk better than mine :S

I have everything on MAX.

I have all the up to date drivers etc. and im running on Win XP Pro SP2.

I dont know what to do...
 
The first few areas look a bit drab. You can really tell that these levels were made early in the development cycle. Push onward, and you'll find better eye-candy.
 
Didn't look as good as i thought it did a few years back. Seems like a pretty average game. Poorly optimized from what i hear.

What res are you running on, and what is he running on? The res makes a HUGE difference in this game... well it does in all games I suppose but you know what I mean.
 
i cant find it.... to put it ULTRA,

and my System should be able to handle it in Max settings... :S not have Framrate issues.

Also im running it at 1280 x 960 - 75Hz
 
You can't compare this game to Source games, they do different things. This game has the best shadows I've seen for a long time and has to cope with a lot more background tasks (I'd imagine.)

I've just checked my fps ingame and they were much lower than I thought they'd be. Doesn't bother me, I think plays well and feels more immersive than game like CS/HL2.

There might be a chance that your system is running it slow, if you want to compare, try this savegame and tell us what your fps are once it's finished loading without moving the mouse.

You've got an 8800GTS...it should work better if you put the graphics up higher - these cards don't fly unless you whack things up...you may have full effects but if the resolution is low the card doesn't have much to do.

It's the same on my 8800GTX, you really need to put the resolution up and see what happens - sounds backward I know but try it!

Also...maybe you have outdated drivers?
 
Everything is up to date with drivers and updates pal, just seems a bit poo... on my nVidia control panel i have it set as High Performance.

Not High Quality.

then everything on Max in STALKER.
