Star Wars Saga on Blu Ray - George Lucas fiddling with it again

The colours look a lot better there, everything looks so blue compared to the blu-ray (which I assume is the bottom one).

Yeah it's a fan edit not a blu-ray. The video compares the transfer of the 2004 SE DVD (top bit of video) with the fan edit titled Empire Strikes Back: Revisited (bottom). The 2004 DVD is the exact same transfer for the 2011 blu-rays. So the improvement you are seeing there at the bottom is the fanedit's colour correction and rotoscoping of new lightsabers - something both the DVD and blu-ray have failed to get right.

Not just that, the backgrounds and distant scenes are more detailed and vibrant, adding to the scenes.

Seriously as an epic star wars fan, what I'm about to say can only come across as the geekeist thing ever, but seriously I just wanted to say this...from being a child I reckon I've seen the original three star wars films, episode 4, 5 and 6 well over 200 times, I've seen them more then any other film I've ever seen in my entire life, and thats saying something, believe me, these are films I watch in bed all the time and sometimes through the day too and after seeing those clips above I can't believe someone would make changes to this work of art.

In my eyes it was already perfection and didnt need to be changed, it's already been changed before but I could live with those changes, especially jabba the hut I thought was brilliant and I was young when that happened so I was able to adapt a lot easier. But now I am older I cant have this film tampered with anymore. For me it has to stay the way it is.

I know every scene and every sentance in my head and all the noises and special effects that come from the chracters and machines/droids/spacecraft etc, I cant have any of this change.

So I was looking really forward to this blueray set but I already own the origonal three on DVD and I will just continue to watch them on my projector and be happy with how they're.

Also it seems silly that someone would mess with star wars, its very old film now and the only people that like it are old die hard fans like myself, its not as if many new kids are going to watch it...most kids I know have hardly ever heard of star wars or if they have they think episode 1, 2 and 3 is star wars????!!??!?!?! LMAO!!!! what a joke!!!

Almost as bad as those millions of newbies that play counter strike source and think that its counter strike haha, you just cant mess with originals baby!

Will enraged fans/nerds buy them regardless? Probably the majority of them. Will enraged fans/nerds post about the changes all over the Internet creating a massive amount of advertising for the franchise? Of course, which seems to be a rather smart move by Lucus/the publishers.

If you don't own them on LaserDisc, you're a newb. :p

seriously who cares, they are not BIG changes so calm down fanboys

Not big changes? They have Hayden Christensen stood next to master yoda and obi won at the end of return of the jedi...seriously stupid, they've changed sounds effects that were memorable and magical to millions of fans, they've changed features that were already fine as they were and now they've added in Hayden Christensen from attack of the clones? are you kidding me!!!

Seriously, what a complete and utter joke...all they had to do was release the origonal film on blueray and everyone would have been happy, but instead they've changed old content and added new content!!??!!?!?!?!?/!:eek::eek::eek::confused::confused::confused::mad::(

As far as I can tell, George Lucas has directed one really good film (TESB and RoTJ having been directed by Kershner and Marquand respectively), one good film and a whole lot of crap. He's produced a lot of good stuff but it seems to mainly happen when Mr Spielberg is directing... Lucas is just a very, very lucky hack.

As for the new special effects. It's 2011, how can the Ewoks blink look sooooo fake? And as for Yoda, the puppet has more soul than that CG nonsense!

It's almost enough to make a person think that George Lucas is some kind of real world internet troll. Doing stuff just to get people, or rather loyal fans, angry.

Personally, I think the changes are made just so that it increases sales of each new release. I for have owned SW Ep IV, V & VI on 2 versions of VHS & 2 versions of DVD whereas the 1st three I've just owned on DVD. I'm going to wait a while before buying as I have a feeling in my bones will go pearshaped. I had to send back both my copies of Gladiator & SPR to be replaced so I want to make sure this release of SW will be OK (as in perfect SQ & PQ & no lip-sync issues). :)

/Geek mode Isn't it a case of puppet for ep IV, V, VI, and then for ep I they used a CG model with more life like looks but wasn't well received (as didn't look like the old puppet). Then for eps II and III they used a revised CG model that looked like the original puppet, and this current change is just swapping out the CG model in ep I with the one from II and III? (Confused? I am :p )

I'm not sure on the specifics so I won't comment on which prequel had what but I think the reason I feel that the the puppet in episodes IV, V and VI (and to a lesser extent, episode I) has more life is that it was controlled by one man, Frank Oz. It's not just about how Yoda looks but how he moves, all the little mannerisms that seem so organic with Oz's work yet so forced and artificial with the CG and at the end of the date, the CG Yoda is so obviously CG. It breaks your (or at least my) suspension of disbelief.

The puppet used for Ep 1 was godawful and looked nothing like the puppet used in the original films. The CG used in Ep 2 & 3 was by far superior and that CG being used in Ep 1 has been one change that the vast majority of the SW fans have applauded.
