Start my RAF Basic Training Tomorrow.

Big good luck from me fella :)

You'll have an absolute blast, but you'll most likely have a really crap time too :D

There are some who'll say "It's not as hard as it used to be..." and things seemed to have changed to make it less intensive since I was there 5 months ago, however I expect they have upped the pressure in other areas!

Lock your locker (not because people are thieves, but because the staff like to go through the blocks), keep your head down and ultimately enjoy yourself!

Look forward to seeing you here mid July

:edit: Oh and as for getting to the forums when you get the opportunity, don't expect to get any opportunity :p

Good Luck!, If possible keep us updated on your progress, it's nice to reed some of the stories of people going through basic training :D

What? How can you be too much of a nice guy?
I believe i needed something along the lines of 'the eye of the tiger' or something! :D

Ultimately i was simply trying to be polite but i guess it could have come over a little too soft and agreeable - in reality (and rather ironically!) i'm a bit of a competitive git so would have probably been pretty well suited. :)

Pushover?

Not saying you were a pushover by the way, just the extreme of being too nice :p
Probably what they thought... pity really.

Cheers lads :)

Ill post some pics once I get some.

I just been speaking to a friend who joined up when we were 17 but he only lasted 7 months before hating it and leaving. But I wont let that deter me because Im older and wiser now and I know that civvy life isnt always perfect either :D

Pretty glad that Im going down Via coach because it gives me the opportunity meet the lads early and mix in from the start.

:)

Good luck lad, you've made the right move. The past 10 years have been great for me, it's been bloody hard at times but always worth it.

Oh and I'll let you in to the 3 rules every airman needs to know and follow.

1. Never be first, never be last and never volunteer for anything.
2. Any old fool can be uncomfortable.
3. When in doubt brew up.

;)

Lol rule 1...

My mate has been in the RAF for about 8 years and he was stressing to me NEVER VOLUNTEER for anything, cos he reckons everyone will just think you are a helmet lol.

Seems a negative attitude to have but Im sure that much the same way as school swats get greif, no doubt ass kissers do in the forces :)

Time for my last sleep in my own bed before months of sleeping in barracks!

Still not really sunk in, but it will no doubt hit me tomorrow.

Night guys. Ill update things when i get time.

Cheers all!

Hey hedge,

Aircraft Maintainance Mechanic (Avionics) - does that mean you've joined the RAF and aren't going to fly?

You big girl.

Nah - wish you all possible good luck. Keep posting here if you can.

Enjoy your new life. I'm jelouse.

Im at Halton in June for Gunner training.

Looking forward to it. I highly doubt you will have time to miss family and things, they keep you busy there.

See you around at some point mate - find a local DH course and take the Pitch for a spin :p

Good luck with the training - oh, and label EVERYTHING you own with permanent marker pen!
