wishing i was somewhere e
Ever since i upgraded my hard drive and upgraded to xp pro every now and then my pc will not start up first time. When this happens i get a black screen with 5 options being
safe mode
safe mode with networking
safe mode with command prompt

last known configuration...

and

boot up the normal way.

If i press enter everthing boots ok and everything works ok but there is no error code or any indication as to where the problem is can anyone help

is this when you turn on your computer you are given the screen??

or after the computer fails to load windows and then chucks up the options??

normally that screen is shown when windows was not shut down properly.

its a long shot.
but it could possibly be F8 stuck because thats the button to access the menu normally check to see if the button is stuck and try a different keyboard to see

The screen you're getting usually occurs when windows crashes or fails to load windows (as you stated) or when you've changed significant pieces of hardware in the computer. It's a pretty ambiguous message, and can mean a hundred different things.

I'd probably suggest trying a full format and reinstallation of windows to make sure it's not something like a dodgy Master Boot Record or something like that first.

P.S. It won't be a stuck F8 key, as the screen he's getting isn't the Advanced Windows Options screen ;)
