I also have to wonder if this could be a bit of psychology at work.

First of all you announce a massive bombardment, and get everyone worked up over it. Then you announce that it will start at a "time of our convenience", implying maybe the weekend - and get everybody speculating. So for the first night, everybody (Iraqi military I mean) are hyped up waiting for the much-vaunted night attacks. Then at dawn, just as everybody thinks nothing is gonna happen for that night, a couple of quick missiles knocks the complacency out of those that were standing down.

Whether it was the intent or not, the US now have the Iraqi military not knowing what the heck is gonna happen, or when it is gonna happen.

If mind games was the intent, it isn't a bad start.

BBC TV are saying the same thing. They report British sources saying the target was 5 specific individuals, including Saddam Hussein. No assessment of whether it was successful or not, though.

The thing is we don't really know do we?

I would suspect that that speech was pre-recorded, after all it's not that hard to track where the transmissions are coming from and flip a couple of bombs/cruise missiles that way surely?
I doubt Soddam would be daft enough to make the transmission live. It'll be taped a little earlier and the tape broadcast. The question is ... how much earlier?

Well the sooner its over the better. I would realy like to see Saddam and his hencemen killed in these air riads rather than risk the lives of the soldiers in a ground war. I really think that once Saddam is killed that things will be over shortly

It's better that it's started now than have several more weeks of build up. I'm really not sure whether I agree with a war or not, but our prime minister seems to think it's necessary and he was elected for a reason. My support is with the British soldiers and I hope all this is over soon for their sake.
