I'd also noticed that reports are very thin tonight. We seem to be just seeing the same footage over and over, they aren't speaking to any of the reporters as with previous nights.

Saying that its almost dawn, so wonder what they are up to.
Its the same in America, the channels are all showing human interest stories. But as you say its almost dawn in Iraq. Not the time you'd think the Coalition would attack.

Lockdown on all reporting?

BRIT FORCES DETROY SEVEN IRAQI TANKS

British forces have destroyed up to seven Iraqi tanks on the edge of Basra, a British naval commander has said.

Captain Alan Massey, of the flagship aircraft carrier Ark Royal, said British light tanks, helped by small helicopter gunships and surveillance helicopters, had been battling a breakout by up to 50 Iraqi tanks.

They were seeking to press southward from the edge of the city, he said.

Was this the breakout to the Faw peninsula that the radio reported this morning? They said that a column of Iraqi armour was heading south from Basra into the Faw peninsula to attack British forces when it was attacked and destroyed by air support.

Not sure, just heard that about 50 tanks had broken out of Basra and were engaged in a fight with British Forces.

Other news, the port of Umm Qasr is now fully controlled and open for use (unconfirmed)

A small fire-fight by Special Forces elements erupted inside Baghdad today. They ambushed someone and then vanished. There's a hunt on for them now. My source said the team got away ok. Their tactics are that they target people who won't negotiate surrender, thus all the commanders know they're fair game unless they deal. It keeps the Iraqi leaders from free movement without major escorts (which then are targeted with remotely detonated explosives against convoys). Source, AV.

The pro-Saddam press coverage in France has gone way over the top. Televised news on TF1 and France2 (state TV) are all but openly rooting for Iraqi victory. A GI resting on a roadside is depicted as being 'in despair'. An imam being escorted by US soldiers is 'being used as a human shield'. Absence of slaughter by American troops is interpreted as a sign of weakness. Iraqi atrocities are depicted as acts of heroic resistance. Rejigging war plans is depicted as lack of preparation. Make no mistake about this, the US will come out of this victorious and battle hardened with full knowledge of who its true frends are. Chiraq and Villepin, take note.

US Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Air Force General Richard Myers tells American television that he believes the toughest fighting in the war with Iraq is still ahead.
