US Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Air Force General Richard Myers tells American television that he believes the toughest fighting in the war with Iraq is still ahead.

Some interesting info:

Tariq Aziz's 22 year old son was convicted a few years ago on a charge of murder (possibly bogus), then released. He is detained in custody every time Aziz travels overseas. Therefore it may be safe to assume that Aziz's place as Deputy PM and Iraqi mouthpiece may not be entirely voluntary. Aziz has in the past certainly come across as a moderate who seems out of place in such a ruthless regime. This is not without precedent, I seem to recall someone in the German Nazi leadership found himself in a similar position (cannot remember who).

Interesting to note that Aziz has not appeared on Washington's published 'hit list' of senior Iraqi officials

So, the American media is reporting that Saddam has given permission to Repulican Guards to use Chem Weapons if a certain line around Baghdad is breached. How did they find this out??
SIGINT
If they do launch such a weapon, what kind of political repurcussions could that cause. Would the Americans be able to start seroius bombing, carpet bombing, using MOAB etc.
Its part of western doctrine not to distinguish between types of WMD. So to use one type may cause Coalition responce with a nuke. Wether we'd do that is difficult to assess. But for a deterrent to work the other side must believe that we will respond with overwhelming force if provoked enough

Short of receiving absolutely massive casualties, I doubt it. It would not be politically acceptable. They are supposed to be liberating Iraq, not flattening it.

On the other hand, if they catch the troops that launched such an attack out in the open, away from massed civilians ..... that's different.

Sound familiar:

Iraqi antiaircraft shot down a coalition aircraft over Baghdad around 12:30 GMT March 25, an eyewitness told a Xinhua correspondent. The pilot reportedly parachuted into the Tigris River, and Baghdad citizens were searching for the downed pilot.
