Is that some of suspected agents are not or that
all so far are not, or all tested so far are not but continuing testing on those that think are chem weopons to confirm?
Are the missiles included in these reports?
There are 3 sites reported yesterday, MSNBC article linked above, One appears to be pesticide - the Agricultural warehouse, this was reported yesterday. The above report appears to be about the site wear drums were buried in the ground. Some had french labels for pesticides and some were unlabelled. Unsurprisingly the pesticide labelled drums have been confirmed as pesticide. This I think is the above report. However the unlabelled drums contents are still unconfirmed. The rocket warheads are awaiting definitive testing.

Or at least thats what I think the situation is.

NEAR NAJAF, Iraq (AFP) - The US military said fears that five soldiers, who suffered blisters while on duty near the central Iraqi town of Najaf, had been exposed to mustard gas were believed to be a "false alarm".

Military officers had said the soldiers, from the 101st Airborne Division's 1st Brigade, suffered nausea as well as the blisters after walking into a building that stored Iraqi ammunition on Monday afternoon.

"The division surgeon doesn't think it is mustard gas," 101st spokesman Major Hugh Cate told AFP.

"He thought it was a false alarm."

Syria now top US target for 'regime change'

Telegraph
One of the main subjects on the agenda of the Belfast summit yesterday was Syria, the Pentagon's next likely target for "regime change" amid suspicions it allowed Saddam Hussein to transfer weapons of mass destruction within its borders. Some US officials are also convinced that Mr Assad has actively collaborated with Saddam and agreed to take weapons, including Scud missiles, from him so they would not be discovered in Iraq by United Nations inspectors. Satellite photographs revealed heavily guarded convoys moving from Iraq to Syria last year. The official said: "Put it this way, they wouldn't have needed that kind of security to move cattle."

Anne Garrels on Morning Edition this morning reported that the NPR news team was at the Palestine hotel during the tank fire, and mentions that U.S. troops reported sniper fire and people on the roof of the hotel using binoculars to track u.s. troops.

Garrels said she heard no sniper fire coming from the rooftop, but that reporters had been using high-powered binoculars on the rooftop to observe the fighting.

Garrels also mentioned that Al-Jazeera and the other arab news outlet that had offices hit yesterday chose to stay in locations that were very near legitimate military targets, despite being warned to relocate.

BBC:

Spanish cameraman Jose Couso, 37, dies of wounds received when a US tank shelled Baghdad's Palestine Hotel, the main base for foreign media in the city. A Reuters cameraman earlier died of his wounds.

Probably not the best way to get the media on your side..

Indeed. Won't make much difference though :/

Although there is this on BBC as well

The International Federation of Journalists condemns both sides in the Iraq war over the deaths of reporters and says those responsible must be brought to justice.

Quite an interesting report from Sky.

http://www.sky.com/shared/videoasx/1,,p2_20030408fn-31200-56,00.asx

(You need Media Player for that BTW).

Normally, Sky seems (how do I put it), slightly more pro-American than BBC would be........ however, this reporter certainly isn't. He's quite sure that there were no snipers from that hotel, and the Americans just fired a shot into it.

Was the tanks crew being trigger happy??? Discuss.

Ive thought about it hard and I cannot think of a single possible reason why the US would have fired at that known target if they didnt believe they were under fire.

I really dont think the US tank commander would have fired at the press just for fun.

TBH though, It doesnt really bother me too much. Civilian casualties is one thing, but the deaths of people getting paid obscene amounts of cash to be there isnt as bad.

I think I saw something on BBC that there were journalists on the roof with binoculars, maybe snipers where nearby. The tank commander thought they were spotters/snipers....?

They deliberately bombed Al Jazeera in Afghanistan so who's to say this wasnt deliberate?

Are you seriously asking that question?

This was a hotel where western journalists, allied journalists were staying. Al-Jazeera in Afghanistan was putting out blatant propaganda and lies...The reporters in this hotel, if anything, were putting out pro american propaganda. What possible reason would the US have for attacking them?

Im open to suggestions here because ive wracked my brain and havent come up with a single reason.

regarding the hotel

apparently it now looks unlikely it was a U.S. tank (or at least the one they thought at first).

Apparently the tank they thought hit it, was in a position that would have been "unlikely" to have been able to hit the building where it was hit.

I beleive the tank was on a bridge and the view of the hotel from the bridge was a different side to the one hit (if that makes sense).

Mr Omar, ITN reporter, mentions he did not hear ANY fire coming FROM the hotel. American commander admits they did fire upon it. I am sure the news agencies will not let this be stifled...

Sorry I was talking about the bombing of Al Jazeera and Abu Dubai (sp?) in Baghdad today, not the hotel thing.

Ah...Theres not much info out on that at the moment..No idea whether it was intentional or not.

Werent the Al-Jazeera staff all turfed out of baghdad last week, or were they just ordered to stop broadcasting?
