Wow. I completed this game when it first came out (ow the memories)
And today I decided to play through it again (having forgot a lot of the story)

Wow, even now this game is amazing, graphically and gameplay wise.
Brings back some fond memories.

Just thought I would post and give Half LIfe 2 the respect it deserves.

Also whats Episode 1 like? worth buying?

Thanks Luke

Episode One is a very good game, it's intense, has a lot of good set pieces, doesn't do much for the story, but it's certainly a good game, just being 4-5 hours long wrecks it for some people.

i've played hl2 countless times get so far in mess up my pc forget to copy the save games and have to start again..... if i have to do ravenhome one more time i'm going to scream!!!!!!! i have episode 1 but refuse to play it until i complete hl2!!!!

Haha I cried laughing when I saw that post :p

Yeah I love HL2 as well. Some parts of the game annoy me, usually because it's taking too long. Prime example is the hover boat...thing... far too long. As was the coastal bit in the buggy, although I did like the whole isolation feel to it... desolate wind-swept cliffs.

Ravenholm was absolutely fantastic and I deffo bricked it on more than one occassion. Ammo just seems to evaporate on that level and the screams/howls of the super zombies and seeing their sillouhettes jumping from roof to roof... *shudders*

Episode 1 kinda just carries on just after the ending of HL2 and sees you escaping from City 17. Very fun to play but is a tad short for the what they are charging. Still, I thought it was well worth it and cannot wait for EP2 :D

currently contending with the snipers above the train tracks again.... why couldn't they give me the rocket launcher earlier in the game!?!

Lol, I was beginning to think I was the only one that appreciated that aspect of the game design. When I first played it I actually left my buggy at the train tracks and walked the rest of it by foot; reminded me of a my trip to Norfolk a couple of years back! :p

Do I actually have to play the first game or can I jump straight into HL2?
I did that and bought HL1 to fill in the missing bits in the storyline but i havent got far as the visuals put me off after playing a game like hl2.

I would play HL1 first if i were to do it again.

You don't really have to, you can pretty much jump into HL2 without any prior knowledge. I would suggest if you do get Half-Life 2, get one of the packages that comes with Half-Life: Source, so that you can play through Half-Life in the Half-Life 2 Source engine. It's graphically not any better, but just nice to play through it on the new engine.

Agreed, the game is awesome but imo if it came it during the time of HL1, HL1 would be the clear winner imo. HL2 is a great game though, the gameplay is great aswell as the graphics and it is definetly worth playing again.

I bought the Silver package many moons ago and never actually got round to playing any of the games :o don't ask me why, there was always something
else to play at the time, plus I couldn't get the hang of CS

Ow man I remember that level. I also got a tad scared playing though that.

Think I am ganna pull an all nighter and complete this tonight, it's such a pleasure to play.

Thanks Luke

Sorry for jacking the thread but I just have to ask: is anyone playing any of the third-party HL2 mod?? I can't seem to play any of them; as soon as I launch the game a message came up saying "Game is not available at this time, please retry later". I used to be able to play them all. Am I missing something here??

I really want to play The Ravenholm: The Lost Chapter mod. :(
