Hi all :D

Just over the passed 2 days, everytime i boot up in the morning or after a good few hours of the system being switched off, the systems seems to freeze as the vista loading bar is scrolling, nothing moves etc. but works fine when i press the restart button, and everytime i turn the pc on after that

Sometime the HDD activity LED is on constant and other times it does not flash at all.

Ps, no recent hardware changes have been made, or diver changes

Any help would be much appreciated

Many Thanks :)

Have you tried just simply disconnecting the SATA leads from the drive and the MB and then reconnecting them along with the drives power connector?

I had a similar problem with an old ASUS board and i found that periodically pulling the power and SATA leads off and reconnecting them would resolve it for a few weeks. I bought new SATA leads in the end which resolved it.

Ahh cheers mate, will have a go first thing in the morning for the first boot of the day and post back with the outcome :)

Thanks :)

UPDATE

Back to square one guys. Replaced the sata cables...Nothing.

System works great playing games for hours, so wouldnt think its a stability issue.

Just the very first boot of the day (off for 8ish hours at night) it freezes at the windows loading bar. works fine for every boot after that, usually 4/5 per day.

Also happens if i F8, choose another hard drive (main boot is W7, Have a Vista drive there too)

Anyone Please :(

Have you run a diagnostic on the HDD?

Also, is the system clocked?

Additional:

Replaced the sata cables...Nothing.

Have you tried a different SATA port on the MB and did the new cable make a difference at all (i.e. did it work for a while and then revert back.)?

the system was overclocked, but set everything to back once this started happening.

hmm Will have a go at looking at the Hdd, but hoe uncanny would that be 2 going at the same time :p

Umm when i swapped the cables i used different sata porst mate, but didnt have any effect as i swapped them in the morning as still hung.

The thing is, i can enter the bios in the morning on first boot, tap F10 and restart and the system boots up fine, just really annoying haveing to go into the bios every morning before i start it up :(

Sorry, i don't understand - do you mean that this is a new HDD and the problems have started since its install?

Is the computer running through an extension cable?

If it is try plugging it in directly into the wall.

But i would still be tempted to run a diagnostics on the HDD just to rule it out.

No no, the problems have just started to happen about a month ago (been running fine for about 6 months), no hardware changes, but no matter which drive boots up frist the same happens, so i wouldnt imagine it being the hard drive, but will do as you say and test them anyway mate :) Like my sammy F1 vista, is the default boot drive, but even if i change it to boot from my seagate 80gig with W7 by default in the bios the same happens the next morning. (if you know what i mean lol)

Never thought about that, will have a go at booting tomowrrow morning direct from the mains, as i have a 6 port extension with my pc/monitor/speakers/xbox/tv connected to it.

What HDD testing software do you recommend.?

Ah, i see - it's unlikely to be the HDD if the same problem is occurring on 2 independent drives. But if you wanted to run diagnostics I would download the dedicated diagnostic software for the HDD from the manufacturer’s website. Samsung ES Tool for example.

If plugging the PC directly into the wall doesn’t work I would then try upping the vCore a notch or two – as you can get similar problems with unstable clocks (although it’s usually just after post) and sometimes a bit more juice can eradicate the problem.

Right M'kay, tried 2 different sockets, and a different cable. Each time the same happens but it freezes further on, this time at the logon page not the windows loading screen.

And this is what i could see in the Event Viewer mate...

Well, when the system froze at the log on screen, i pressed the restart button, then once logged on, took that pic, so that was the only error in the Event Viewer :)
Think it might be something to do with the psu.?

Is quite frustrating as it only hppens after the system being off for a good few hours (5/6+) so any changes i make to see if they work could take days.! :(

It's always a possibilty and as such you could test it. I can dig out a link if you need one for guidance on how to do this?

Have you tried running stress tests - memtest86, prime95, IBT etc to test how stable your system is overall?

Is there a possibiility of testing the part in a different machine or trying with your current setup.

Is it worth running prime or Orthos to check for stability and run mem-test to rule out any memory issues.

Thats the thing mate, once the system is up and running after the second boot  i can hammer Crysis for hours, run Intel Burn in for 20 passes all fine, which has got me stumped.!!

Then in the interim, I would up the vCore a notch or two today and see if that makes any difference with a cold boot tomorrow.
