State of Decay coming to PC(Steam)

I'm really struggling to get into this after a few days (12 hours worth of play)

For some unknown reason it's just not grabbing me which is really weird as it's got everything in there that should make me like it.

I'll give it a few more days before I click the uninstall button.

I'm feeling the same. The game doesn't really have a direction to follow. I keep expecting it to hold my hand and tell me what to do, but then I realise it's a survival game and I have to do things on my own.

to me its a good sign of the games quality when i dont hate the nights, its so dark in game and the zombies while not a big threat can be a big issue if you alert a horde etc.

I find some of the items like the egg timer, or toy doll are great for luring lots of zombies away from you so you can continue scavenging.

BTW my enjoyment of the game may owe a lot to the fact that Walking Dead has recently came back on TV and im a bit hype dfor anything zombiefied atm :D

Just shy of 20 hours played and it's a good game... but it's incredibly easy. Roundhouse kick will one shot zombies near a fence or wall, Armoured Zomibes are a joke, Ferals are easy just run around in a circle until they jump and miss then smack them until dead. Big Un's are the only zombie type that provides a challenge. Even hordes are easy, one petrol bomb or a heavy weapon will wipe them out. Or if you fancy a change just mow them down with a car. Never used any egg timers, firecrackers, dolls etc. unless it's for a mission that requires you make a distraction. Only had 1 guy die, and that me being derp and jumping over a wall blindly right into a Big-un who picked me up and snapped me in two.

Just a little disappointed as it's not challenging at all, otherwise it's great to play.

TLDR: Too easy

This looks interesting but I have a question. Is there a 'finished' version of this being released soon as in one that isn't this 'early access' type deal? I think I'd rather wait till that pops up instead of starting with what looks to be essentially a beta version. Heard there are folk who lose their saved game progress when patches are released.

So when is the 'final' version looking like it will appear?

Well I'm 50 hours in now and I'm sorry to say that I'm done with it.

For some reason that I can't put my finger on, the game is simply not pulling me in, I find myself not caring about what's happening, the characters seem bland and if I alert a horde then its a case of 'so what!'

Shame really.

Erm, 50 hours is pretty good in terms of VFM.

Absolutely, I'm not questioning the game or it's value.

I just can't say I've particularly enjoyed the hours I've played, I've forced myself to play because it's a game a should like.

It's got all right ingredients and normally I'd stick a lot more than 50 hrs into something like this, also I think I only got to that amount because I was ill at the weekend and stayed in.

Question...

How do you select a mission? So you get 2-3 missions thrown at you. How do you select the appropriate mission so your map is updated with the appropriate waypoint etc. I've looked in the diary and highlighted "missions" but doesn't seem to do anything?

I'm thus far enjoying this game, but must admit that the total lack of information/manual frustrates me. There is absolutely no explanation of how the figures/values/stats effect the game play, and I've already discovered some hidden mechanics I was completely unaware of (eg: being able to go to specialisation screen when you reach level 4 or something!?!)

Shame there isn't in game help to explain/walk you through this stuff.

Just select the mission marker you want to do on your map as a waypoint, go there and then the mission should automatically start when you go near it, or you may have to 'talk' to someone to initiate it.

Yeh, the game is good, but it sort of feels it missed a final polish doesn't it, and that there's a truly amazing game waiting to happen next time around :)

Ah, so all available "missions" are shown on your map, and you simply travel to it. Additionally, highlight the location and the waypoint arrow will guide you there?

I found the same thing as well. I lost two people and both occasions were me being reckless. Went straight to the biggest safe house because it was easy to get the resources for it and then I didn't have much reason to leave the small town I was unless a mission forced me to.

Nice idea but needs a to be a lot harder.

Agreed... There's a balancing issue/game design issue in there... Hopefully the sequel will learn and improve/solve. Still good fun though!

Haven't been playing long but I find it quite challenging. I'm running out of cars to maul zombies with as most of them are either on fire or destroyed.

Maybe I'm missing something and there's more to the combat than left clicking + z.

Playing with latest patch.

You can just use cars to kill the zombies, and upgrade your base to repair them, although the first base can only repair one at a time. But thats really playing on easy mode.
If you want to challenge yourself a bit more, kill them without using the cars and then you can faster level up your guys too, you dont get xp for using cars as far as I know.

For info: State of Decay is now out of Early Access and is fully released on Steam.

As for the cars, well I moved to the trucking warehouse as it can repair 4 cars at once. Then just use them in circulation, so use car 1 until it is damaged, then park it up in the bay and move onto car 2 etc.
