Steam Account Hijacked...Then Disabled!!!!

I`m back....hopefuly its sorted now!!!!!

The steam support e-mail.

Hello,

A staff member has replied to your question:

My apologies for the delay. The account should now be properly enabled. If you have any further questions, please let us know - we will be happy to assist you.

It's actually worth having at least one retail game that uses Steam.

My son lost his account, no fault of his own of course .

It was only because I bought his copy of Left4Dead from Amazon and I could send a photo of the original CD key to proove the account belonged to him, that he got it back.

I have since verified his account to one of my email accounts, so there shouldn't be any problems in the future.

Personally, I wish that they would do what Blizz have done and add an Authenticator option. When people have hundreds of pounds worth of games there, they would be happy to pay £10 or so for an extra level of security. I consider myself extremely security conscious, but even so, you never know, and for a small outlay its peace of mind.

What i was trying to say...its was already verified before i was hacked.
and verified again when I got my account back.

Surely you need to confirm the account changes via email... Unless they had access to your emails as well?

I think the worse thing to happen from this is having a valve ban on the account when you get it back, as they wont remove it.

if it was verified they wouldn't have been able to change the email address or password without your knowledge or without access to your email account.

which means either it wasn't verified or you need to change your email password too.

Interesting Tefal, I wasn't quite understanding what you meant, until you kept plugging the verified line.
Oddly I get emails advertising from steam occaisonally, I've had a steam account since they launched, I have tons of GBs worth of steam games, and it wasn't until today I went into setting and found a link to verify my email.

Very pleased you kept plugging the verify line. Althought I haven't shared my password or been hacked etc, it is good reassurance to now have the email account verified, just adds a little additional layer of fortification.

Urge everyone to do the same, I do find it odd that i could run steam for all these years without it once even prompting me to consider email verification.

yep they added the verification recently so it wasn't forced upon everyone.

They did one of those "steam update" pop ups for about a week but everyone just closes them, :p (i know i did ¬_¬).

Yeah with it verified as long as they don't have your email password you're pretty much solid.

:)

unique passwords for email and steam are vital, as well as doing the 'verify email address', and in case you can't remember your secret question, reset that after verifying your account email
