Steam - Devs can now ask Steam to dish out VAC bans.

I'm sure there has to be some submission of proof to valve to issue a vac ban and not just on the say so of a dev with a attitude problem.

We don't know enough about the process to pass judgement or comment so this is all a bit pointless tbh

Literally the third question on the steam community post..

Will Valve review developer requests for banning in any way?

Developers must be approved to use this system, and Valve reserves the right to revoke access to the system if the developer abuses it.

and the last one

Do players now have to appeal bans by contacting a game developer directly, or can this go through Valve/Steam customer service as well?

Players should first contact the game developer if they wish to appeal a game ban, since the developer has the data describing why the ban occurred. If a player feels the game developer is being unreasonable, he/she should contact Steam Support. If Valve determines a game developer is abusing the ability to apply game bans, Valve can remove the ability for that developer to apply bans in the future

What is wrong with the current "Opt in" VAC system which is free to developers?

You are assuming all developers are mature, level headed souls?

Good luck when a cretin bans you for saying something constructive about their game in Steam discussions.
Chill fella, there is a reason I put a BIG GRIN at the end of the post.
I'm not exactly a fan of these kind of things either.

I wonder how long it'll be before they're like ANet, handing out 72 hour bans in Guild Wars 2 for using the world's two most obnoxious 'swearwords', namely 'damn' and 'hell'.

As Dave said, Valve are on a roll.

GOG Galaxy cannot some soon enough.

Maybe Steam are trying to kill their own monster?

Got the galaxy beta invite, but not installed, thought it was just some spam.

This could end up being like YouTube where a dev can flag someone for something they haven't done and an automated b/s program issues out bans/strikes.

RIP Steam if it's automated.

Time to start playing games constantly recording yourself so you can provide evidence if unfairly banned... All getting a bit 1984 but with video games... Ok maybe not :p

only a matter of time before steam starts handing out full on account bans for people based on dev pressure.

happens on xbox live why not steam
