Steam Link and Steam Controller now available to Pre Order

Dies anyone here use the link as a media device for say things like kodi? I'm thinking about setting mine back up for this sort of thing but not sure if it works well? I imagine kodi wouldn't work with a game controller?

Thanks any advice is appreciated! Would be nice to use the link and not have to faff around switching screen sources when playing directly with pc to HDMI!

Also when you guys plug it directly via Ethernet, do you mean tv hdmi to the link, ethernet to the router, router to the PC? Or is there a better way?

When I used Kodi on my SteamLink I had a few problems;
1) I would get the occasional audio pop while listening to music or playing a TV recording. Happened enough to become annoying after awhile.
2) The Big Picture Steam Overlay doesn't work with Kodi so you can't rebind your Controller once Kodi is running. I tried creating a Steam Controller config on my PC before using Kodi on my SteamLink. This worked until the Steam Controller went to sleep and then wouldn't detect Kodi when you powered it up again. I ended up using the Steam Controller to launch Kodi via the SteamLink and then use Kore (the Kodi remote app) and this seemed to be the best solution. Unfortunate I had to stop using the Steam Controller as it was really responsive and there was something really satisfying about being able to bind all the primary functions to physical buttons, made navigation a joy.

Not tried again in the last 6 months. These issues might of been resolved by now. However Plex got updated for my TV so I've been using that instead as it works perfectly.

I've found I'm getting the odd audio pop since a few updates ago. Highly annoying because at one point it was perfect.

It's annoyed me enough to look into rebuilding my PC to move it downstairs.

I gave up on mine. Couldn't get the keyboard/mouse to work properly with it. Did I do something wrong?

I've only booted up my Link once so far, too many games crashed when I tried to launch them through it... so I just stopped trying.

Does the Link App for Samsung TVs work any differently?

I bought one of these when they were last on sale. I've got it hooked up via ethernet, but it's been totally unusable due to constant black screen on load and image quality issues, so after hours of messing around I gave up trying to get it going.

Welp, not sure about in the UK, but it's for sale for $2.50... down from $50 lol.

I just grabbed one as $2.50 is nothing. Even if it just gets used once.

I really dislike this. 2016 and newer TVs only? Why? The hardware isn't going to be that radically different to old Smart TVs... it's just to encourage you to buy a new one.

Samsung are awful for this. Abandoning support for TVs that are only a couple years old to get you to move to a newer TV, when the old hardware is more than good enough.
