Steam Link and Steam Controller now available to Pre Order

I was quite unimpressed with both the link and the controller over powerline adapters. But, recently moved house and hardwired everything.

Now the link is flawless but still not impressed with the controller so tried a wireless 360 controller last night and it made such a huge difference.

So now I'm happy with this setup.

I wish there was some sort of agent on the host pc that the link could issue commands to, such as unlock pc and start big picture mode. I don't like my pc sitting unlocked all the time as it's on 24/7.

Just here to put my experience up for those considering buying.....

Set it up tonight. I have a wired network around the house so perhaps luckier than some, but I've found it perfectly stable.

Plugged a wireless 360 dongle into it and that works flawlessly too.

I've only played a couple of hours of MGS:V so far.

The link is plugged in to a Denon amp with a 5.1 setup and again, this works perfectly with full surround sound immediately, with no tinkering or setup issues.

(For those audiophiles into amps etc, the iPhone app my amp is controlled by reports the format of the sound it's putting out and gives a visual representation of the speakers in use. For films it always comes up as Dolby Digital and Surround and uses all 6 speakers including the sub. For my Sonos it plays music with a multi channel input and doesn't use the sub. I was expecting Dolby Digital with games, but it's showing Multi Channel input again but uses all six speakers including the sub. I'm certainly no audiophile or expert in the field, but it certainly sounds like proper 5.1 surround, with for example, noises moving around you if you make the character spin on the spot while stood next to the source of the noise)

I only put this here in detail as I've recently bought the amp and was hoping for the link to support surround sound, but couldn't find any concrete info about it online.
I also assume some games may specifically use the Dolby digital format maybe?

I don't know but I'll report back if I find any specific examples.

Arrived today. Tried the link on my wireless network, but wasn't usable so picked up some powerline plugs - works brilliantly now...smooth, no noticeable lag and looks great.

50/50 on the controller at the moment. Finding it difficult to use, but can also see the benefit of mastering it for gaming on the couch...going to take some time to get used to though.

Which powerline plugs did you buy ?

As I also bought a steam link & controller in the sale and will most likely need to buy some powerline plugs..

Hi, bit stuck and googling skills not doing good today. I got a steamlink and i am using a xbox controller. I only had it so i can run kodi and watch it on my big tv. I am unable to rebind the keys on controller to control and use kodi from the other room. Any help or links to a guide would be very grateful :)

I'm having problems with 5.1 - when I enable it on the Steam Link, I seem to be missing some sound in games. It's really odd and I can't seem to fix it. My amp shows it's getting all channels.

If I set my Steam Link back to Stereo it's fine.

I get the same problem, have only noticed it in far cry 4 so far. I assume it is a bug as steam still seem to be developing the software quite heavily. Works fine in other games.

Pretty much just playing shadow of mordor and fallout on this at the moment. No mans sky should be ace on this.

I have my link wired in to the router and it's excellent.

I'm using a PS4 controller and it works perfectly. My wireless 360 controller is paired with my PC and if I switch that on I can use it in game. Works nicely as a 2nd controller for Mortal Kombat. The Wii U's Pro controller works perfectly too but is odd because the A and B buttons are the opposite way around.

Am Still waiting for my Steam Link & game pad that I bought in the steam sale on 4th july to come...:(

Can't help I'm afraid, found it 'almost' perfect so far.

On MGS:V the rear speakers are much too loud compared to the rest, but everything else has been fine.

Use the parcel force number to see what they are doing with it. Gls tracking is useless and parcel force took a couple of days to get mine delivered.
The tracking on the parcel force website is useless

The only tracking history it says is this

Contact them and ask where the hell it is. Mine didn't get delivered the first day that it was out for delivery. Second day I phoned them up lunchtime and it just happened to arrive about 30mins later. Parcel force are useless.

I give it till I get home from work tomorrow and if nothing changed then I e-mail parcel force..

As parcels do sometimes take longer with me living in the channel islands..

It sounds cheap when you click but I am loving my steam controller more than my Xbox pad. It just feels more suited to PC gaming overall which is what I want.

Only downside of playing in the living room is that due to the distance from the screen, not all games are viable with reading descriptions etc. Plus when you have a 40" PC Monitor right in front of you, a 43" isn't really all that impressive :p
