I started properly purchasing games a couple of sales ago. I will be honest when I say I have spent a lot of money. But why? Most of the games I now own I would never buy off the shelf, so why am I buying them now?

I think a lot has to do with this community. The sales seems to bring about a buzz on here and it's enjoyable to engage with everyone. People discuss their experiences with games and on occasion this may lead to a sale. But more often than not though I find myself buying a game because:

1. It's cheap
2. It allows me to join in discussions

I'm sittting on games that I will probably never play through in their entirety but for some reason i'm happy to give them a home. Curious as to what reasons you are buying games for in the sales.

Games I've always wanted but didn't want to pay full price for, I'm happy enough to pay £30 to go to a theme park or £10 for the cinema for a few hours so I'm more than happy to pay between £1-10 for a game I've wanted and will probably only play for a few hours or 1 play through.

Nope. I've only bought one game in the sale and I actually wanted it.

Personally I find the concept of buying lots of games you don't want just so that you can join in with discussions bonkers, but each to their own I guess.

Nope, everything I've bought I've considered whether or not I'm buying it for the sake of it or because I will play it.

So far I've enjoyed everything I've bought!

I have far too many games on steam (294) and will probably never play most of them to completion but there are so many games that I have took a chance on in the sale that I have really enjoyed that it's worth it for me,

Being pretty tight with my wallet. Only bought one game so far, and I'm enjoying it (Walking Dead).

Most of the sale games they put up are utter **** that they knock 75% off just to get SOME sales. A lot of people probably get carried away by the -75% and just impulse buy, then play the game for 5 minutes lol.

Nope, I only buy stuff I know I will play.

Managed to grab Alice MR and F3AR so far, as I've wanted to play both but didn't want to pay top dollar for them as there was other stuff I was more bothered about and was happy to wait for them to get cheap.

Managed to snag both for £3.50 a pop. Bargain.

Guilty.

OK, how many of you bought games in the Christmas sales only to get the acheivement and never play them again?

I know I did. But saying that, as a result I found a couple of hidden nuggets that way too.

I'm only buying games I've either previously considered buying but didnt want to pay as much for, or games that look appealing to me. If its looks rubbish, I'm not buying it, even if its only going for a couple of pounds.

I don't know about anybody else, personally I try to keep up with gaming news & I read about games all the time be it reviews, preview or what not, I love the gaming industry but I have a limited budget so can't afford to buy a lot of games that I've read about, I have to pick & choose what I buy carefully, I don't pirate games so steam sales for me offer the opportunity to play those games that I've been interested in but didn't buy either because of average review scores or being overpriced at release.
It's great for me I just bought five games for the price of a full retail release I would otherwise never have played.

I went abit mental on the Christmas sale, and was buying games purely to get the achievements to try and win stuff, games I would never normally consider buying, but bought for that reason, and because they were cheap, lol.

I've got like 220 games in my library now, half of them I've never played yet. I'm dreading the day I update my computer, because I'll be updating my HDD and taking it round to my parents to rape their faster broadband, so will just have steam on constantly running downloads, downloading all these games, lol.

I might have bought Alan Wake collection, but not been checking up on Flash Sales so missed it. Even then it was for more than I would consider spending.
