Steam Sales - Are you buying ****?

have only bought one game.. might get jc2 for the sake of it since i liked and i might want to play it in the future and having everything on steam is sooo much easier

Only thing I've bought and wanted to play that has been in the sale is Witcher 2 and Payday.

However there's games like Dear Esther yesterday at £1.74 which I've been intrigued by more than anything, so at that price it's worth a punt surely having just spent £1.80 on a cup of tea lol.

I do buy a lot of games that I never end up playing or that I end up disliking after trying. What I like about it is that it gives me the opportunity to have a punt on some games that look interesting but I would never had paid full price for them. I have found some gems that I'v ended up putting 100 hours plus into so overall it is worth it to me.

I also buy a lot of games very cheap that I would have paid full price for just because I only have to wait 6 months or so for a Steam sale, so I feel it balances out nicely in the end.

Certain games though I just buy instantly though (did it with Deus Ex: HR for example) because I know I'll really want to play them at launch.

When I think back I used to pay £5+ a month on a magazine or two with demo discs... I can get all the information I want regarding reviews etc. online nowadays and get a full game or two for that money in the sales, so I think things have moved forward in that respect and I get good value information and product for the same cash.

Personally I watch gameplay videos in order to have a say in conversations about a particular game...wouldn't buy a game just so I could talk about it, bit weird.

Yes, I've often thought it'd be a good idea to watch lots of youtube videos of BMW M5s so I can offer my considered and educated opinion of them in Motors! :D

Dear Esther is pretty dull. I know it's supposed to be arty but it's just irritating, the walk speed is so slow. I spent ten minutes walking down a beach only to find it was a dead end and had to walk all the way back!

This might sound sad, but i often check out IGN video reviews on youtube. I don't know how great IGN are, or perhaps how bad they are - but some decent gameplay clips along with some commentary telling me the gist of the game, along with a verdict is pretty nice.

Yeah, I've spent quite a lot this time around, but I've got what I consider to be some great bargains, I'll get around to playing them all at some stage. Bought a few games that I already have boxed versions of such as POP Sands Of Time, Syberia series etc, both of these games I consider to be near the top of their genres so will relish playing through them again, a couple of quid for a classic game is money well spent imo.

Spent very little on games all year tbh and have held off on big releases that I would have liked at release such as Max Payne 3 in the hope that it would come up in a Steam sale, really glad I waited as I picked it up significantly cheaper than I otherwise would have.

Been an expensive sale so far for me but no regrets, they'll all get played. Will probably buy a few more yet!:)

I have brought possibly around 17games, that have always caught my eye and wanted to play.

But i didn't really buy any games from the last sale which was my first one, enough games to last me a year or so :) and all for the price of 1 single xbox game..... so i am overall happy and all the games i have paid for i want to play at some point.

I do have maybe too many games on Steam, many of which cost £2-5. The way I look at it is this; how many people pay £70+ per month for 2-300 TV channels and hardly every watch 90% of them? If Sky/Virgin had a time counter like Steam does, how many people, even after a few years of subsciption, would flick through the channels to see "total time watched: 17 minutes" etc

So far I've bought:

Mirror's Edge
Trine 1
Trine 2
Bioshock 1
Bioshock 2
New Vegas
Arkham Asylum
Arkham City
Metro 2033
Portal 1
Portal 2
Dead Space 2
Alan Wake

I'm confident I'll play all of these though. I've already played a few, but I just want to play them again on the PC instead of the Xbox.

So far I have only bought the DLC for Saints Row 3, why I don't know as I couldn't give a monkeys for transsexual lesbians with gimp masks and whatever else they want you to download.
I think it is because the DLC is so expensive ordinarily that when it is 75% off it is hard to resist.

Still waitng for Race Injection to hit 75% off as I think that is the only game I really want.

What happens if you already have a game and then its in the sale in a pack with extra add ons, do you just uninstall the original and then dowload the pack

Dear Esther is pretty dull. I know it's supposed to be arty but it's just irritating, the walk speed is so slow. I spent ten minutes walking down a beach only to find it was a dead end and had to walk all the way back!

Ditto. I love the landscape and atmosphere but it is so annoying. Shame really, I would have loved to spent more time exporing the game but not at a snails pace.
