Steam Summer Sale 2011

Ok, well I will concede defence grid, torchlight and Kane & lynch are well priced, but I already own them.

I would say torchlight and defence grid are must buys at this price.

Agree, I own both already but both are really good games. Defence grid gets insanely hard as well at the later stages to the point of hair pulling and swearing moments abound!

I bought darkstar one (which is like freelancer, major bonus!) and harvest: massive encounter or whatever its called, which is a strategy game which is quite simple to play but very hard to be good at. Both for less than £3 last night = win win

Theres a lot of hidden gems on steam which have been discounted nicely in this summer sale but don't get shown on the main page, so its well worth a look through the catalogues on it.

I got DoW 2 Retribution when it was on the other day and magika in yesterday's deals. question though, is it possible to make steam download in the background whilst you play another steam game? or do I have to wait for it to finish downloading shed loads of gbs before I can do anything?

Yes you can. It pauses it, you then have to alt-tab out, restart it, then alt-tab back in.

alt tab out of your game and resume the download and that gets around it. You can't setup steam to simply carry on though when you launch a game and that is the only way of doing it that I'm aware of.

Torchlight & Defense Grid good deals for anyone who doesn't already have them.
Nothing much there taking my fancy, maybe AC2 for £5.09 but I don't like platform games. Kinda trying to make a rule that I don't do any impulse buys (i.e. games that I haven't seriously considered buying before) costing more than £4.

As for the above point I'm amazed that Valve haven't put in an option to disable pausing of downloads when starting a game. 99% of the gaming I do via Steam is singleplayer so it is really annoying having to re-enable all my downloads while playing.

AC2 is superb, seriously. The only reason I haven't bought it in this sale is because I own it on PS3 and have completed it also on the PS3 + DLC lol. I also hate platformers as a general rule but that game really does make things easy when it comes to "free running".

Aye, if they implement that, it'd be really nice to have download caps as well. I tend to find Steam is very bandwidth greedy (when the Steam servers can keep up with demand), and it'd be nice to set a maximum download rate for those of us who share net connections.
