Steam to allow everything!

Personally I'm getting sick of Steam, everytime I go to look at it I just seem to get 150 piles of absolute dross "games" , junk like this..

Its getting harder and harder to find worthwhile titles in the mass of cack indie (obviously there are some good indie titles but the majority on there are just drivel) and 8,000 anime/asian "dating" games.

This. People are getting caught up on the 'freedom' aspect of what they've said.

While on one hand I can agree that people dont want what they can play dictated to them, on the other hand a completely unregulated marketplace ends up like this.

I don't bother browsing anymore, its not worth my time or effort. Oh and the same people vehemently defending freedom of speech/gaming are probably the same ones that intentionally review bomb a game if the developer doesn't swing their political way anyway, its happened before and itll happen again. 'Oh don't you bring politics into gaming, but I will'.

I get the impression that Valve have looked at the whole situation, had a meeting and gone '**** it'.

Best news.

But I honestly don't believe them until I see some games re-added to Steam after being pulled for false reasons plus when new games are added.

Don't have a problem with the junk games to be honest, but I can understand why some do, but in that regard, I feel people treat Steam as some store front for AAA only games and are very elitist about it, but in the end, Steam is just an distribution platform, it's there to sell games and make money.

What they need to do is add developer only categories that game studios can tag their games with, so when people filter them out, it filters them all out correctly, instead of the current user tag trolling that happens and any abuse of that system by devs can be punished much harder.

That should please everyone.

I must say I am getting a tad bored with the "ban ban ban" brigade, how about people take some responsibility for what they do? Is that too much to ask? I have certainly made some poor purchase decisions in the past, but I have learned from them and will never purchase games without reading user reviews. I have therefore never been caught by the poor standard of some of the games on sale on Steam or elsewhere.

Good news. More games for gamers, less power for whiners.

To those having trouble finding games they want on Steam: You have a search function, the Discovery Queue, Curator recommendations, and recommendations based on your purchase history, wishlist, and recently played games further down the main page. If you can't find something you want out of all that, then you're doing something wrong.

Also, with google and youtube, you have so many resources to filter the crud, there really isn't any excuse for purchasing crud.

I already have trouble filtering out all the crap anime stuff that floods the front page, god knows what it'll be like now.

It'll be interesting to see what happens to the proper adult content stuff though as it gets a mainstream platform for distribution.

Also, will steam offer parental controls to manage what their kids are buying? Will they police what tags are applied to games to ensure good filtering? There are some questions to answer before you just let any old game onto your platform

I know that in this connected world it is difficult, however I wish parents would take more responsibility for what their children are up to. A lot of parenting these days seems to be of the leave the kids with the "ipad" kind, which will never be healthy.

That's the thing this government and many others around the world doesn't understand. everyone is quick to blame X or Y for something, but it's YOUR job as the parent to be a parent to your kids! Instead, because of the "think of the children" we on the verge of being forced to buy Porn ID's.

More personal responsibility should be focused and applied.

I give it a year, tops, before they have to amend the policy.

How many times now have we learned that unmoderated internet spaces become an absolute dumpster fire? It's fine if you're 4chan and you only exist as a dumpster fire platform for kids, but if you're a major corporation making billions of dollars off it....

It'll end up having to the opposite effect, particularly in the kneejerk conservative political climate in the US.

I think the problem is all the stuff they don't want, being splashed all across the place and in your face.
I play space sims - How that triggers two dozen recommendations for Jap schoolgirl hentai games, "based on games you play", I have no idea...

Is that not just technological evolution, as kids wanting to buy porn no longer have angry Sikh blokes in corner shops saying "No"?

Lol, I once had it come up with some bizarre romance game and in the games like these that you own or play or whatever the wording is, it had a thumbnail of Rimworld !

Agreed. Now with the attention that school shooting game drew, the media will be looking to pounce on the next controversy and in the end the PC brigade will get what they want yet again and Steam will be more restricted as a result.

It won't just be Steam that gets affected, it's going to bring the whole games industry into the political spotlight as the inevitable deluge of clickbait games starts flooding in...any publicity is good publicity etc etc.

Hmm I'm not against this but I can see governments possibly getting involved more where laws prohibit certain content in their countries. Just take Adult content, in the UK the laws a lot more strict than say the USA. We just dont think about it due to the internet providing free hard to block sources that in a court of law are illegal and chargable. Its only getting worse with the current government introducing laws to restrict, enforce and report on your content access.

Only time will tell of course, but it will be interesting and I can see Values point of not wanting to be a guard to Steam. Its a platform, let country laws control what you can access on it.

If they are doing this. They need a stronger filter system.

I do not own a VR headset and I do not want to be bombarded by anime visual novels. Yet I have no way to properly filter out what I dont want to see.
