Steam

no need to be nasty guys, it's a valid question..

coincidentally Dawn of War has a patching system that doesn't work well with steam, basically it has to re-download whole sections of the game. Most game patches simply replace files, the THQ patches actually modify existing files.. to get around this, steam has to download the whole 'new' file

you'll find it's quicker for updating most other games

and yes, it's down to your internet speed :/

It is actually this game that I seem to be having problems with.
The slow downloads and it saying it couldn't connect to the server.
Maybe it's just this that makes me think it is rubbish.
Luckily on tues i'll be getting o2 broadband so that may improve things.
It's now downloading at 203kb/s.

what do you call slow internet speeds now? lol (If he is on 512 then that is sloooooow.
I have 2meg,But im wanting to go onto virgin 10meg :-)

Ok, I'm gonna pretend I didn't see the OP...Apologise now and we can all go about our business...

We don't want another Rybo89 situation on our hands...

Dont bother. You can only use 10mb after 9pm, before that its basically 2mb anyway.

Also, steam maxes out my connection every time.

Apologise for what?Saying something is rubbish because I wasn't happy with it?For asking a simple question? No,I don't think so.

Anybody else think this is rubbish?
I've got 2 games on my pc that use it and both of them took ages to download the update through steam. One took well over 2 hours,i've just tried another and it said it'd take 1 day and 4 hours!
Is there any way to make it faster or make it work better?

yes.

I will never buy from Steam again after the age it took them to sort out a patch of COD w@w. It's not worth getting non valve games through them. Their prices are generally rubbish too.

But Steam isn't rubbish?

You've clearly got confused with Steam and your internet connection/problem with a specific game or two, which has already been cleared up with a known issue stated by Bledd.

Therefore, to appease my gods, all I ask for a humble sacrifice and apology for knocking software, which is quite frankly, is top notch and didn't deserve the dressing down you gave it in the OP ;)

See...even Rybo knows :p

Ok, if we are going through the same old arguments:

From about post 9.

I would possibly agree with non Valve games but even the ones I have experienced have had no problems. With regards to pricing, can't really blame the content delivery system itself.

Do you have anything to do with steam?Did you design it?I didn't think so.I didn't **** anybody off or give anybody any grief so asking for an apology is quite frankly ridiculous.
I will say cheers to iviv and bledd for sorting out my problem.

Do you have anything to do with steam?.

Yep, I'm a fanboy :p

I didn't **** anybody off or give anybody any grief

You implied that Steam is rubbish:

Steam: Anybody else think this is rubbish?
?

Which it is not. It may have it's ups and downs, oddities and the like. But in general, best online gaming content delivery system, bar none.

The idea of an apology was a joke, insinuated by the sarcrifice of an apology to my gods at steam.
Some things are lost on people I suppose, like the idea of what good software is...

Overall I don't like Steam.

I have HL2, Ep1 and Ep2 and as such, I have it installed. But only because I have to.

I don't agree with having the stupid thing rammed down my throat when I don't want it installed. I can patch my own games in my own time, thankyou. I don't need any app doing it for me. I also don't agree with giving Valve the power of jury, judge, and sentencer with regards to products i've paid hard money for.

If I see a game that "requires" Steam, it actually puts me off buying it.
