Steorn Demo at Kinetica

Last time an energy source like this was about to hit, a fuel company made them a substantial offer which was turned down, and then the lead scientist vanished.... Would not hold my breath about this getting into the eye of the public, fuel companies are far to greedy to let that happen!

Unless they bunk off the 200 people as well who signed up to the NDA and are testing devices, i doubt that will happen.

I realy do hope not, this could be very good, free energy, that does not hurt the Earth any more, will certainly help us by untill Sub Space Energy is redily avaliable...

Doubt you can use it with computers mind, due to it using magnetics, and magnets + hard drives = :(

And what energy source would this be?

I've been waiting for this even since I first heard about Steorn.
I find it really difficult to believe that anything like this could be possible, but it will be interesting to see what the outcome of the demonstration is regardless.

That shouldn't make a difference, if there was a device like this you would likely have one in your house to produce the electricity rather than having one in every device.

Well aparently we will find out a 6pm london time when a live webcam/video will be available...

http://www.rte.ie/news/2007/0704/steorn.html

Today the invention will go on public display for the first time with a live working demonstration to be streamed on the internet from 6pm tonight.

Steorn Chief Executive Sean McCarthy has said the demonstration will involve a 'very simplified version' of the technology and it will be open to the public from Thursday 5 July to Friday 13 July at the Kinetica Museum at Spitalfields Market in London.

Sceptics can view the device lifting a weight from four different camera angles online.

Mr McCarthy said the company had decided against using the technology to illuminate a light-bulb as the use of wires would attract further suspicion from a scientific community that has already dismissed the device.

probably because he was wanted for fraud. :p

Plug the output into the input and see if the universe rapidly goes up in flames. If it doesn't, it aint no free energy machine.

Looking forward to 6pm though, although I doubt they have remotely the needed bandwidth available for those 4 cams.

I'm betting its the 10^30 Joules of the Earth's rotation, say goodbye to alternating day and night.

Ah this reminds me, i once wondered if it was possible to use the energy from the earths rotation, like how water down the sink turns.

Also i always wondered if its possible to balance a magnet between another magnet above and the earths mavity below, incredibly hard no doubt but surely its possible in theory?

Hard drives are not very sensitive to external magnetic sources (within reason) As they have to use some pretty strong magnets inside to move the arm at such a rapid rate. If you take one apart you will see how strong the magnets inside a hard drive really are.

Theoretically it can be done but it's an unstable system so is practically very difficult to achieve. It would only take the tiniest movement in either direction for the 'floating' magnet to get pulled towards either the static magnet or the ground.

...

So how can he demo a simplified version, is that the same as me brining an abacus along to demo how my computer works?

i call fake, but we can always hope

If this device works and is not a con, does that mean that they will have to rewrite the laws of physics, seen as it breaks them?

In a word: Yes.

Thermodynamics (and the quantum mechanical principles from which it is derived) would no longer be valid. We would have to completely re-examine the nature of energy and entropy. Hence my extreme skepticism.

Of course I would love for it to actually be such a revolution, I just think there's a better chance of turning on the TV tomorrow to see stories of flying pigs.

Yes!

I don't have a link but last time i was in Paris i saw a gadget that exhibited this effect in a shop under the louvre. Basically a small light globe suspended spinning in mid air by a magnet above it.

Surprisingly stable.
