Step up from s2000?

I wouldn't call the handling on my E89 Z4 amazing (all electric steering is very noticeable to me at least, suspension was softer than an E85 I tested), it's more cruiser than thriller although the acceleration is fairly decent (and that exhaust sound) . I test drove the boxster, Z4, 370Z (hardtop) and an SLK. If you have time I'd try and get a drive in each, I found them all fun to drive and a lot more different than I was expecting.

who mentioned e89s? :s

z4m has hydraulic steering not electric. Also considerably quicker than an s2000, much nicer interior, looks better, still great handling....win/win? :D

I see one problem in this whole Thread.
You obviously dont know what to upgrade s2k to.....
Boxter S i my opinion is ugly as hell
z4m is good idea i think )

z4m was something i was considering, but was worried about the steering myself?

I considered an exige a long time ago but decided id never use it as it has no space for keeping anything, even going to work i might struggle, they are amazing tho!

Not sure on the Porsche, meant to be drivers car, dont really know much more about them.. dunno if gf would like it :p

S2000s are great cars and excellent value which this thread is testament to. I think anything significantly better is going to cost significantly more to run.

The obvious next step would be as suggested, something like a Boxster S or Z4M. The steering of the Z4M is meant to be much better than the non-M variant.

I think the Z4M and Boxster S are a step up from an S2000. They are quicker and in the case of the Boxster a bit better at everything bar perhaps the gearbox, which from my brief forays in S2000's is really rather lovely, the steering less so.

Thing I find about the Boxster however is it's arguably too good. It is refined and precise with few if any vices, which the S2000 has and like the GT3 I had, it makes them fun as they take skill to really get the most from them. Most drivers with some skill could get in a Boxster and make it fly, the S2000 and the Z4M will take more effort so perhaps a Z4M is where to start followed by the Boxster.

Go drive both, form your own opinion. If you want the very best Boxster then go for a previous generation Spyder.....though kiss goodbye to a roof worth having.

i was looking at 10kish, so maybe i should just stickj with the s2?

^I do like the feisty s2000, quite like the rawness if that makes sense?
Maybe the one to look at (if any) is the z4m, perhaps go for a test drive.

Otherwise ill probably just spend some money on the S2

I got better idea. Put Supercharger on your S2k push it to 350BHP and have more fun out of it :D

I was wondering about this myself. I don't think you would get anything worthwhile for 10k. Z4M would be very nice and quick, but a boxster would probably be the better overall package. Even at 10k wouldn't you struggle to get a good example of either of the above?

If it's purely a fun car I would be looking at a TVR, but not for 10k. Something more practical would he a 911.

To be honest, you could smarten up your S, do a couple of simple mods and still have a brilliant car. I really enjoy having such a rare car, you would lose that with a boxster or Z4. I know we can all tell the difference between the Z4M and e regular one, but you would still be checking out every one that drove past for those tell tale signs.

I don't think I would bother supercharging my S. if I'm getting the urge for way faster I think it's time for a different car.

I had an S2000 and now have an e46 M3, Don't think I would go back, though it doesnt have that sense of occasion while driving it, I think if it was a drop top or had a CSL airbox that might change things though (that said I didnt want a drop top for the asthetics/handling/noise).

Z3M if your feeling crazy :D

When I had my s2k I came close to buying a faster replacement. It was probably going to be a 3.2 NSX

I found that lots of comparable s2000 cars just didn't feel as .... Involved, as the s2k.

For various reasons, I never got the NSX, and I now drive a rather dull fabia vrs... I do have close to my target of 20% house deposit though. Swings and roundabouts, priorities change.

For 10k, I'd spend it on:

Spare wheels and semi slicks
Oil catch tank and baffled sump
Uprated pads discs fluid and master cylinder brace
Geo
Tuition
Trackdays.

Spend change on more track days/tuition/euro road trip to spa track day ....

Get the picture ? ;-)

Short version, you need to spend bigger than 10k to make a notable step up IMO

if its more towards 20k then i cant really justify it tbh, the honda has been perfect reliability wise, just a shame the engine wasnt a little bit bigger with a little more torque

thought about SC a while ago, wheels, etc. its just if i start theres no going back

There isn't much, if anything I can think of for under 10k that would be an upgrade to an s2000. You must have purchased it for a reason, it fits your needs and is an exciting drive (can't beat the roof down either).

I wish I still had mine.

Personally I'd only tune for N/A.

You can get genuinely noticeable gains from a new Ecu and map (AEM EMS With a Mase tune) but I'd personally do that with the following supporting mods
Intake - PWD JDM with the radiator cover
Throttle Body - Science of Speed
Exhaust Manifold - Toda/J's Racing
Cat - Berk Sports Cat - still road legal
Exhaust - J's racing 60RS Dual/Single based on your taste.

That with a map would be absolutely fantastic fun :-)
