Step up from s2000?

id love an exige as i said, but its just to impractical, id never use it! it is however almost my perfect car

Some people say wraps are ok, others not, tbhi i wanted a wrap anyway as im not keen at all on the colour, a full respray would work out worse than getting a new car in the colour i wanted.

Wraps just don't stay unblemished for long. They soon get shredded by stones flying up off the road. And cars are supposed to be shiny in my opinion, not matte and unfinished looking.

just to close this thread off, i think i will keep my current s2 for a while and maybe just get a newer one at some point.

also thinking of selling the seat, not sure yet as my work distance is now 15 miles rather than 60 each way

I have a similar dilemma. There is very little on the market that isn't mega money that provides the same thrills, handling and fun as an S2000.

My current plan is to either supercharge the S2000 or upgrade to a Porsche 997 cabrio.

Yeah I'm the same. Hence 7.5 years of the same car. I've driven a fair amount of other cars too and not many have the involvement of an S2000

I kept changing my mind before selling mine, gave in in the end though as needed something just a little more practical.

Loved it though and will get another at some point.

The video from the other day looked like a potential step up to be fair ;)

I know what everyone means though. Accepting I was - and still am - a total S2000 fanboy, some of the cars mentioned in here are just not significant enough steps up. You'd drive them and just not feel the same magic.

A properly driven S2000 is a total hoon machine, even in standard form.

I had great fun in track days and some of the cars mentioned in here were slower than me... maybe because their drivers weren't pushing/as good.... but it still felt great flying past seriously expensive machinery at full chat and getting thumbs up/flashing lights as I'd go over the kerbing of the apex at full chat ... Always prompted great pitlane banter.

Best ever was the chat with a 996 owner. I put the vid Youtube but did a hash of editing. Conversation went like this:

<him>haha that was awesome ! what engine mods have you done?!
<me>.....none.
<him>
<me>

I did then tell him I'd spent 4 figures on handling improvements, including obligatory overnight parts from Japan ;):p

God I miss that car :(

i think i should still if anything get a newer one, mine is AP1 and tbh i feel i would need to spend a lot to get it to where i want..including a colour change..some of the later models have orange/yellow paint!

the porsche does look nice but doesnt look much more fun, plus they have more miles on than my current S2

That was the other thing with mine, as much as I liked it I just prefer the 2004-2006 model with the facelifted bodywork and wheels, wasn't such a fan of the even later wheels.

I'd always said the plan was to only keep it a few months and if I wanted an S2000 longer term I'd rather I was ploughing the cash into maintaining a facelift model.

A friend has a 2005 model in that dark blue colour he's looking to sell next year and whilst the dark grey is my fave colour I'll be tempted by it as it's been very well kept.

yes the new one with facelift has a much more aggressive look, and i believe different suspension.

If i sold both my cars i have at the moment i could probably have a newer one for not much more cash tbh

The later ones like mine aren't as sharp to drive. Nothing that can't be sorted with a little suspension work though.

I think they made the handling more safe on the newer ones. It was too easy for average joe driver to lose the rear end so they made them a bit more stable.

Always wanted an S2K myself, had 2 ITR DC2's but never an S2, I'd need a hard top if I did have one, not a fan of soft tops at all.

I'm in exactly the same boat.

I've been looking at 350Z, Z4's, M3's etc.

The problem here in NZ you can't buy a facelift S2000 for less than 15k gbp and that's what i'd really prefer. I'm skeptical of going back to the pre-facelift from what i've read and heard but never driven one.

350Z felt loads quicker in a straight line but the handling didn't feel anywhere near as involved.

Next to try is the M3 but the only ones in my budget seem to be the SMG <2004 which i've heard stories about.
