Steve Jobs has died. What effect, if any, will it have on Apple and the tech industry?

So, the man who saved Apple and owned Pixar for a bulk of it's ridiculous success (sold to Disney before Ratatoille, Wall-e, Up & ToyStory 3) has passed away.

What effect will his passing have on the tech industry as a whole. Will it make investors nervous? will Apple lose some of its lustre? Will nothing change?

Apple will never be the same, that's for sure.

Doubt anyone can step in his shoes. They might still come out with 'great' products but I think they'll slowly start to lose investors.

It will no doubt have an effect, but I'm sure there are plenty of people capable of carrying on the brand without too much trouble.

Will it make investors nervous?

There's the $64,000 question, in the eyes of the markets, Steve Jobs is Apple & Apple is Steve Jobs, i can't think of a another global brand whos identity is so closely linked with that of it's founder.

People on twitter asking if the 4s is meant to be "4 Steve".

It's not just Apple that have relied on him, the fanbase is linked to him like no other CEO. If you asked most people who was the CEO of Sony or GE or Ford or any number of massive companies they wouldn't have a clue. And they wouldn't give a monkeys if that CEO died. Yet Jobs managed to weave his way into the hearts of Apple fans. They listened BECAUSE he spoke.

The 4S has already been met with kind of "meh" reactions in the press. Its also the first one that jobs didnt show off. Had he been healthy there is no doubt he would have announced exactly the same phone but I can't help but think that reactions would have been the more typical "wooo yeah new phone".

The death of the face of Apple coupled with the ongoing war with Samsung, Android being ever more popular, Google buying patents to give to it's partners to back them against Apple just doesn't look great. Apple has lots of money, and a massive fanbase that will continue to flock to buy new toys. But it's not exactly a rosy picture that Apple are left with at the moment.

microsoft and bill gates?

but considering how long Steve had been absent from Apple for medical leave, I don't think his passing will have a huge impact on the running of Apple. Personally, I think they lost more of a figurehead than a true leader now.

Why has the iPhone 4S been met with 'meh'? What were people wanting to see?

i think if they had calle dit the 5 rather than the 4s there would be more sales and even more so if it had a new case

thats about all it would have taken

He had already stepped down as CEO of Apple a short while ago.

Like Bill Gates he was a CEO of a company he founded. He was there at the start and thanks to a return he was there to his end.

I'm sure Apple is in capable hands, however as with what happened in the past when Steve Jobs left Apple, whether their future remains as successful remains to be seen.

I don't see why it would effect any other industry. He wasn't involved in anything else as far as I know.

Realistically? For the next few years I doubt it will make any difference what so ever. Jobs, being well known for his perfectionism has probably already got the cogs moving for the next few years - especially considering this is not a surprising death. Tim Cook, I believe is more than capable of running the company.

In the long run however, it might really start to have an impact. Jobs was an inspirational speaker and a fantastic marketer.

I'm not sure however how much Apple will be able to continue to produce ultra-sleek, ultra-convenient products for, without Jobs' influence and contributions.

Add to that as said above, the growing power of Apple, and Samsung's 'plagiarism,' and you have a real issue for Apple.

Saying that, I really really doubt that Apple being the multi-national conglomorate will be complete powereless, it just might fall down in it's truly revolutionary products - the iPod changed everything. The iPhone changed everything (the newer incarnations certainly didn't 'change everything again'...)

TBH, I would have betted on Apple to produce the first holographic item...

Basically the guy that 'built' Pixar up from the ground. Now the largest shareholder in Disney, or was. I'm not sure his death will have quite as big an impact here though...
