as a big Liverpool fan this interview is near making me cry (im a 27 year old man get a hold of yourself lol).

its been a honor to watch gerrard play on many occasions but i think he has made the right choice for himself and for the club.

will we ever see another player like him at the club again? i doubt it

His reaction to being told what Margaret Aspinall said about him right at the end got me :(

Think he would've stayed if he been assured of a first team place week in week out but I get the impression our offer wasn't going to give him that so he's decided to seek guaranteed football elsewhere.

Liverpool legend and I'm sure he'll be back at the club in some capacity in the future.

I think Carra said something similar when he retired. He wanted to go out when he was in the team and contributing, not after sitting on the bench all season. Gerrard's already struggling to come to terms with not playing every game now and that was only going to get worse had he stayed another season.

I still believe Gerrard could have been of use next season but certainly not as a regular in the side and if that's what he wanted then, as he recognised, it's best for him to move on.

That was quite emotional even for someone who couldn't care less about him or Liverpool tbh. What a great servant. He obviously doesn't want to leave.

He was already welling up before that. From about 11 minutes he can't wait to get out of there.

I hate the thought of Gerrard leaving, he is by far the greatest player to play for the club in my generation, started watching football about 1990 at the age of 9.

I honestly don't get what the club are doing here, I know FSG probably don't want to pay high wages for a part time player but how do you not pay Gerrard at least £75k a week after his career at the club.

I understand he can't play every week also, it has been apparent his legs are not up to that any longer and dare I say in some games we have looked better when he hasn't played. However I believe that is down to Rodgers playing him as a DM, a position I do not think suits his natural game or his ageing legs, you can get away with one but not both those attributes.

I'd have liked to have sen him stay on until retirement, accept he will play a bit less and possible play CM or AM, managed properly like Lampard is now. Then become a coach, I do believe this is a possibility but as I say FSG won't pay a big contract because of his age and Gerrard wants to ply every week so I can see the problem.

I think we are better when he is not in the team all honesty it's hard to say but it's true just look at the Swansea game compared the leicester game so much more energy in the team without him.

What bothers me a bit is I don't think there is a leader in the team without him Hendo will more likely get the captains arm bad but I wouldn't want him being my captain if we where 2-0 down in a big game he hasn't got the experience of being in a real big big game like a cl similar final

Another thing is some players would want to come to liverpool to experience playing with someone like Gerrard without him we havent got a real star name so come the summer the owners need to make a big statement and buy a big name. A player I would like to see is ross barkley I know he isn't a big name but getting him I think is a statement after all Gerrard is irreplaceable

Him in a back three in a sort of centre back/sweeper role would work for me, and he'd probably be able to do that week in week out. He's more often than not in that role anyway, but when you've already got three centre backs and he comes back to their line to get the ball, you've got four players behind their forward line - you're always going to struggle to break down defensive teams doing that.

Make him one of the centre backs... it's not as if they could get any weaker defensively, so might as well make one of them a defensive play maker...

A flawed character, an excellent footballer and a contrived/telegraphed interview.

The PL will be less interesting without him.

Honestly I don't get why people are saying stuff like he clearly doesn't want to leave, or why aren't the club giving him less money to play less often....

"I don't know where I'm going yet, but it will be america", "Rodgers has said they'll have to manage my games", etc, etc.

Liverpool have made it perfectly clear they'll happily keep him and Gerrard has made it perfectly clear he's taking the biggest financial offer on the table with MLS teams willing to offer more for a player not anywhere near his best than any other league and he's waiting to see which team gives him the biggest offer.

It's got nothing to do with playing every week otherwise he'd take less money at a smaller team than Liverpool in a top 4 league and play every week. He's gone to the MLS for one reason and one reason alone, money.

tbf he did turn down Chelsea at the last minute a few years ago. But yeh you are right.

And with all due respect - he was awesome.

Gerrard has been a fantastic servant to Liverpool. In my opinion, won fewer trophies than his ability deserved.

Quite simply put, he is not good enough now to be a first team starter this season and that will only diminish next season. He is deluded if he thinks he still deserves to be one of the first names on the team sheet, I think this will be about money for Gerrard. It will be very difficult for Liverpool fans to see Gerrard pull on another shirt.

I did not envisage him leaving Liverpool and I thought this or next season would be his last, unless he adopts a back up position for the team, and a move in to coaching might suit him. He obviously places money above playing a better standard of football, or loyalty. (insert abuse for questioning his loyalty here)

yeah robbie savage made that point on match of the day there is no point in him dropping into a cb role to play a 60 yard ball when he is meant to be playing midfield Rodgers could try him in cb instead of Can

How can anyone ques tion Gerrard's loyalty he stayed and give his best years to liverpool who where under achieving when he could have walked onto any team in the world, he turned down Chelsea on numerous Occasions and real Madrid when he could have been playing alongside zindane and getting more money

Care to link me to an article or video where he's said this is financially motivated.
